RE: We took Cincy's best shot

so we arent okay with these fouls...and these fouls arent the game plan..our style isnt to foul...stop insinuating that foolishness
sampson has spoken on this before...our style is being physical and being tough..every time the ball is on the ground, we expect everyone to jump on it, every rebound everyone include the guards go for it ...and this is by design you can see them working drills like that on youtube
we are physical ..we are tough....that is part of our style.....
fouling isnt..if it was our players wouldnt be getting angry at the calls, which they were visible angry at...remove the last 2 minutes i was okay with the officiating yesteray...some of the calls the last 2 mins were beyond me..even the announcers noted how bad it was
I agree. I don't think it's always been Houston's style, but this year it really has been. They have done a fantastic job not letting teams get what they want on the offensive end. If they play with that kind of consistency, they will be a serious threat to win games in the tourney. UC played like that for years. Still do to a degree. Last night though, Houston was all over the boards. Such an impressive performance. I haven't seen UC get beat liked that on the boards since the X game earlier. It hasn't happened often in Mick's tenure.
As far as the fouling, I obviously don't think that's part of UH's strategy. I think the Houston big men are a little rough with their positioning and footwork, which leads to them fouling more often than most, especially around the rim. I thought the only person who really got shortchanged last night was Corey Davis. I don't see how he fouled out.

Some coaches want their defenders to force more body contact to knock guys out of position and disrupt what the other team does. They do this knowing they'll be called for more fouls, but like to play that way. Houston is one of those teams. Their defensive players initiate a lot of contact with offensive players throughout the game.
Some coaches really try to avoid fouls and teach their guys to play defense almost entirely by position and rotating. UC is one of those teams. Almost all the contact when UC defends comes from the offensive player initiating contact in a spot the UC defender has beat them too. UC players don't give ground in those situations but aren't initiating the contact either. The way UC is coached on defense is why they commit few fouls.
Houston won the game. They played great, they played their style really well. This is not a knock on Houston, but them getting called for a lot of fouls isn't surprising. It's in how they play. It's effective for them. They are a top 20 type defense and teams really struggle with 2point FG % inside as a result. The tradeoff is getting called for fouls. I figured their fans would be smart enough to get it and be used to it. This isn't some insult to your team. It's literally an observation of the style they choose to play and a compliment to how effective they are in doing so.
Well maybe cincy should try playing tougher.
And I'm just ignoring the part where you insinuate that just because cincy has played better basketball than UH for quite a while, that means cincy fans are smarter.
There is no doubt, in the basketball IQ pool, we swim laps around you guys.
Haha! Got news for you. Those aren't laps you're swimming. Y'all been lazily tubing on the success of your team, are now spinning round and round that big ol' Coog whirlpool you failed to notice coming at you!
Don't forget your floaties!

Great win Houston, only 27 to go! Definitely helps the conference, I think this pretty much locks up three bids barring a completely cooging.
that's pretty much where i stand. i don't mind losing to houston, they've got a good club and rarely are an easy out. just their tendency to crap the bed makes losses like this sting. good game coogs
bump
tnx houston
