If one of the new bigs is ready to step in and contribute next year, we will be fine. If we can land a grad transfer, it could be a major step up.

Kithcart is a transfer from an ACC school. I would imagine, he and Ahmad will see time on the floor together.

I think when anyone here says grad transfer they mean a one year Big.

Oh yea of course. People, for good reason, forget that we have Kithcart coming in next year. The guy was a 4 star recruit and got some minutes at Pitt. I believe he actually started some games for them. He will be a huge piece in replacing Randy Haynes.

Also, there is no possible way Ahmad misses out on first team all CUSA. Saying that, I do know that they messed up before with Freeman not winning player of the year but I believe Ahmad's case is far too strong. He is hands down the most complete point guard in this league. He should be in the mix for POY.

@InsideCBB: Very few PGs playing better than Old Dominion's Ahmad Caver right now. Over his last 5, he's averaging 14.4 points, 8.2 assists, 2.4 steals, and has committed 1 turnover. Needless to say, the Monarchs are 5-0 in that stretch.

Agree and add a Haynes, that makes a sweet backcourt.

While I did forget about Kithcart, the grad transfer I was referring to would be a big.

Guess I should've bolded it when replying. This is why I brought up Kithcart. I was saying Kithcart would help replace Haynes production.

RE: ODU vs UTEP
Utep is the worst team Ive seen this year. No effort. Just stupid turnovers. We had open 3 poit shots on every possession almost.

Good thing we were up a lot because we got a little careless (Brandan tried leading the break lol).

I could see a case for being better next year. Though carver is nowhere near as good as Stith. Stith and Haynes arent easy to replace but we will have a lot of backcourt depth, a lot of returning talent, and some newcomers that seem to fit the puzzle.

If we land a halfway decent grad transfer, we might be an at lrge type team.

Right now we have lightning in a bottle and are playing much like those GMU and VCU teams that ran through the brackets. We need to be a team of destiny. Hopefully we didn't peak too early and JJ knows to get out of the way and go along with the ride. Lose this week and I doubt we can get it back. Win them both and we could potentially roll all the way into the Sweet 16. If we shoot like this, MTSU will have no chance. We had them on the ropes shooting 5-25.

Reading Marshall boards quite a few think they're going to crush us. It may be close but I don't see us losing big if at all. if they believe we are the same team from over a month ago they'd be wrong

Thanks for those posts DaBig. Caver is in fact playing great. Big test coming up this week. I remember when we played WK their coach said he thought they could exploit our point guard. Hope someone reminds Ahmad of that comment.

Gotta clip Marshall first.

The only game this year that was remotely out of hand was the temple game and that was just the first half.

I mean I enjoy every game as they come but yeah if we don't make the tournament this is a failed season. It's good this team hasn't dropped the bad loss in conference play which is an improvement. I'm optimistic with our chances but we still (likely) have to beat WKU then MT back to back on a neutral court in Texas for this season to be a success.
Not sure I would call the season a failure, as the players have shown great improvement and performed at a high level, but I would say that JJ's seat should not get any cooler unless he gets them to the dance.

Unfortunately this is a one bid conference. And right now, MTSU is the better team.

I Don’t remember Jones outspokenly encouraging a player to shoot threes and their teammates to pass him the ball like he does with Goodwin. This is second game ive seen him tell guys to pass ball to him.

The conference has not been the strong since we’ve joined it you could argue there are three teams that have a reasonable shot at being top 50. I’m starting to believe that if things fall in place there could be two bids

It’s definitely possible. Giles, you have time to list some scenarios that you think could result in a two bid league? You are heavily engaged in Kenpom. The committee has finally decided to make this part of the selection process. I know the main scenario is MTSU wins out, makes the final, and loses, but is there another scenario in play that you see involving us in an at large this year? I don’t see it happening, but you never know.

Just win. We are as good as anyone in our league. And maybe better right now. Just gotta keep doing what we have been doing lately. Attack, attack attack !

RE: ODU vs UTEP
Two bids would be a massive step forward for the conference and I really want it to happen. Not sure if this is the year, but if the top 5 teams in this conference (MT, WKU, ODU, Marshall, UAB) commit to scheduling strong OOC and manage to play up then it will happen one of these years. I imagine that it will be a First Four selection initially.

RE: ODU vs UTEP
MTSU is nearly a lock for the NCAA's. If anyone else wins the CUSA Tournament, we'll have two bids.

Unfortunately, that's likely the only 2 bid scenario, though WKU has an outside shot at an at large if the run the table to the title game. I don't see any scenario where ODU gets an at large. Those chances were shot back in June when the schedule came out, and nothing has really changed since.
