Although I think both Southern Miss and FAU win their final games, I do not think either will receive bowl invitations. There are several P5 programs with 5 win and if they get to their 6th, they will land in those open spots ahead of our 6-6 teams. Sad, but seems to be the case.
Sadly, I think YOU'RE wrong...IF USM gets to 6 wins we will be 6-5, not 6-6, and we WILL receive a bowl bid, count on it.

I forgot about your canceled game. I do believe USM wins and gets their 6th win. And, I hope you are right about getting an invitation, but In the end it will all come down to how many P5 reach 6 wins too.

If one or both win then how is one (or both) left out as CUSA has 7 tie ins with 6 eligible already.

– Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla vs. American Athletic
– Bahamas Bowl vs. MAC
– Cheribundi Tart Cherry Bowl vs. American Athletic
– Gildan New Mexico Bowl vs. Mountain West
– Hawai’i Bowl vs. Mountain West
– R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl vs. Sun Belt
– SERVPRO First Responders Bowl vs. Big Ten

I thought we had a backup agreement with the Gasparilla Bowl this season?

New Orleans - LT vs Troy
Independence - USM vs Duke

That makes absolutely zero sense with USM being a quick 1.5 hour drive to New Orleans and LA Tech being a 4.5 hour drive there. Meanwhile, Shreveport is a 1 hour drive for LA Tech and is Tech's largest alumni base.

I hope it is not Troy, they could destroy Tech so could ULM. Who has Tech beat? 1 Good team UNT and that one yesterday was pitiful performance.

The Sun Belt champion will be in NO.

SEC gets 3 New Years bowls, they will not be able to fill Indy bowl
New Mex bowl could offer 10 win Fresno for UAB
SMU ends up in Boca Roton
Army or SDST might end up in Dallas vs No Tex

RE: C-USA bowls
There are going to be more extra bowl teams this season than anytime in recent memory. It will be very interesting to see how iron clad some of our bowl deals are - especially the ones that rotate and typically get shifted around by ESPN. I wouldn't bank on any 'extra' bowl teams from CUSA getting in. Too many 6-7 win P5 teams this year. Our conference office better have their **** together.

By my count:

78 bowl spots
71 already eligible
25 (!) more possible teams (2 guaranteed due to head to head matchups)

Of course, most of those 25 are underdogs in their final game, but the possibility for several extra teams is certainly there.

see my earlier posts on this thread with the head to head matchups involving 5 win teams

- there's 3 head to head 5-6 matchups (Tenn-Vandy, Purdue-Indiana, Texas Tech-Baylor) which puts total at 74 for sure
- there's 16 teams outside of those 3 games involving 5-6 teams that can reach 6 wins this week so at most you'd have 12 extra teams with 6 wins or more
- there's 2 teams (Va Tech and Akron) that have to win this week and next to reach 6 wins
- Ole Miss (5-6) is ineligible due to its 2nd and final year of a post season ban

Of those already guaranteed a bowl slot, is anyone hearing rumors about where they will land?

And if it hasn’t been mentioned, teams with 7 or more wins get priority over 6 win teams as far as CUSA’s pecking order so FAU/USM will truly be the last ones selected from CUSA assuming either or both win this week.

if that is indeed true, that makes it extra weird that USM didn't schedule a home game against an FCS team Dec 1.

We started the season with an FCS team so that wouldn’t do us any good

I could see the First Responder Bowl wanting that UNT-BYU matchup that both the ESPN guys have down. That bowl absolutely HAS to make money this year or it wont be here next season. UNT has the local base and BYU has a good national fan base. It's exactly what I would want if I was on the FRB Committee.

USM couldn't schedule ANYONE at home the weekend of Dec 1st...USM is hosting the MS high school FB state championships that Friday and Saturday.

I feel like I’ve got this correct but feel free to let me know of any miscues

Final weekend of regular season games involving teams with 5 wins
71 teams in already

Miami, OH (5-6) host Ball St (4-7)
Coastal Carolina (5-6) at South Alabama (2-9)
Florida St (5-6) host Florida (8-3)
Baylor (5-6) at Texas Tech (5-6)...winner is 72
Tulane (5-6) host Navy (3-8)
Wake (5-6) at Duke (7-4)
TCU (5-6) host Oklahoma St (6-5)
Wyoming (5-6) at New Mexico (3-8)
Purdue (5-6) at Indiana (5-6)....winner is 73
Maryland (5-6) at Penn St (8-3)
Minnesota (5-6) at Wisconsin (7-4)
Arizona (5-6) host Arizona St (6-5)
SMU (5-6) at Tulsa (2-9)
Tennessee (5-6) at Vanderbilt (5-6)...winner is 74
Southern Miss (5-6) at UTEP (1-10)
FAU (5-6) host Charlotte (4-7)
Kansas St (5-6) at Iowa St (6-4)
Colorado (5-6) at California (6-4)
USC (5-6) host Norte Dame (11-0)

**VT (4-6) host Virginia (7-4)... If VT wins it’s almost guaranteed they’ll find a 12th game
**Akron (4-6) at Ohio (7-4)....Akron plays at South Carolina the week after in makeup game
**Ole Miss ineligible due to sanctions

Game 1 of 16 this week in which we need a 5 win team to lose is tonight. Let’s go Ball St!...I realize there are 19 games but not counting the 3 matchups where both teams have 5 wins as the outcome is guaranteed a 6 win team
