RE: Which AAC schools to the Big 12?
I see OU getting out. Question is if UT goes with them. If not, then I can see the Big XII possibly surviving. But they'd still lose OU and possibly one other, like Okie State.

If that happens, they are at 8 schools with the SEC at 16 and other conferences coming in for the kill. Half the conference will end up leaving.

Literally every school would be in play if UT is forced to try to make it work.

So. If Texas and OU are the only ones to leave. I think you’ll see 2 or 4 added. Out of this group below

BYU
Houston
Cincy
UCF
Memphis
SMU

If the rumors are true that the PAC-12 swoops in and takes Tech, ISU, KSU, and Okie State, then I think you’ll see all 6 of those schools added above. Plus Boise. And maybe USF/Temple.

So those schools would be joing a Big12 composed of Baylor, Kansas, TCU, and West Virgina. (Wonder if West Virginia is on the phone to the ACC.)

Why wouldn't the 6 schools leaving just vote to disband the conference and not pay any departure fees?

RE: Which AAC schools to the Big 12?
What makes you think there will be any Big 12 left to join? If Texas and OK leave for the SEC, their 2 800 pound gorillas are gone. Expect to see other Big 12 schools bail faster than you count to 3. I expect rumors of other Big 12 schools looking for life rafts within another week or so. Kansas will reach out to the Big 10 or ACC. OK St will reach out to the Pac 12. If the AAC just sits tight, they can possibly have their pick of leftovers. One thing I can absolutely guarantee you though is that if/when TX/OK leave other schools will get nervous and start looking for the first boat out of town.

Texas Tech being left out will expose them for what they really are: a glorified UTEP in the Texas Panhandle.

They’ve taken advantage of having UT and OU visiting Lubbock (A&M and Nebraska until they left) You take those two out and see their attendance plummet. They have never won a Big XII title in football, have never played in a BCS/NY6 bowl, no Heisman winners, poor recruiting area but at least they made the NCAAT final in 2019 ……unfortunately the coach just left this spring for UT. Baylor has done more than Tech.

At least the facilities are nice…….

Pac needs a presence in Texas for the network. Leftovers are all religious schools, which leaves TT. That is why they get picked up.

Yep, people not from Texas, don't realize just how far out TT is. Hundreds of miles from civilization in an outpost near New Mexico. No trees and nothing but farmland or dry dusty landscapes and tiny towns for hundreds of miles in any direction.

I see the most likely schools the B12 adds as:

BYU
Cincy
UCF
Houston
Memphis
SMU

I doubt they add anyone beyond those schools unless the conference gets absolutely ransacked. If that happens and there’s only a few schools left, these schools likely get a look:

Colorado State
usf
Boise State
Tulane

I agree with this. If both Texas and OU actually join the SEC, the Big 12 is done, their days are numbered. This may actually turn out to be a good thing for the AAC, but it has to be both of them.

I'd guess Houston, Cincy, UCF, and Memphis would be the likeliest picks from the AAC. Any two of USF, Colorado St, Boise St, and BYU could be in play if the Big 12 decides to go to 14 members.

Big12 needs to add 6 and really try grab as many big market teams as possible.
Rivalries will help too since you are losing the most iconic rivalry in college football.

Cincy (keg of nails)
UCF (war on I-4)
South Florida (war on I-4)
BYU
Memphis
SMU (Iron Skillet)

All kidding aside. a six member BIG XII is less attractive than an 11 member AAC... JMHO

Agree

There’s zero interest adding texas tech if BONGhorns aren’t coming.

That said, here hope Houston remains in AAC
