Carolina was really interested in the ECU job when we hired Montgomery and we basically dismissed him due to lack of coordinator experience and sure enough he looks like he's going to be really good at S. Carolina. Obviously Dabo's worked out well at Clemson as well so he just might be a sneaky good hire if not a sexy one.

There's no one right or wrong way to hire a coach, but it does seem like the position coach hire is extreme boom or bust. At least from the examples I've seen of those hires going wrong, it's not just like they are mediocre and you have to fire them after a few years but they are flaming dumpster fires that have to be fired almost immediately.

Other than Dabo and PJ Fleck you mean.

Yes, thank you for making my point for me. As I said, very few position coaches even make it to an FBS interview, let alone hire. It's a hard place to start from in order to succeed. LikeI said, hope he succeeds, have to see improvement in every aspect of Temple's games before I am sold. Losing by single digits would be a good start.

My personal preference...
1. Keeler
1a. Cignetti

If you listened to me, I told you we weren't hiring an FCS coach.

Congrats on the new hire!!

But if your goal is losing by only single digits then the P5 coordinator with some NFL on the resume is a good way to go.

It’s worked well for Rice and now we’re 4-8 but competitive in most all our games!
(That aren’t against UT, UTSA, or the second half against UH or WKU)

ECU leads Liberty 10-4, not that anyone can see since the stream still hasn't started. Come on ESPN.

*edit* stream finally starts 5 minutes in to the game.

It's a first year goal. We have been losing by 30. 5 year goal is to win the AAC. Will Drayton be the coach? I hope so. It will mean he has succeeded.

Next year is going to be rough. Between transfers we lose and recruits we don’t get due to the previous 2 coaches, we literally have a 4 year void. We will stock up on juco players out of necessity while Drayton begins building the team he envisions. Our 2023 freshman class will be the one that starts Temple on the way back, 2022 is already a lost cause.

Agree. People scoff at me when I say the re-build is a minimum of 4 years.

It's a rebuild, no doubt, but Rod Carey wasn't a coach that inspired his players to be better.

A coach that can inspire his players can get more out of this roster.

In Stan Drayton I think we have that at Temple for the first time in awhile.

I can't wait to see how this turns out, I haven't been this excited about the Owls since the day Matt Rhule left for Baylor.

We lost most of our games by 30 points. Does a motivator get us to lose most of them by 15? We have a talent gap and the new coach is not fond of the portal. It will take 4 years to get to top half of AAC level.

I disagree.

Not being inspired to play football will lead to a lot of blowout losses.

He said he wasn't gonna use the portal to build the roster, didn't say he wasn't going to use it.
