RE: 5 Primaries tonight- Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington
Some outlets are now projecting that the anti-abortion rights amendment in Kansas has FAILED -
https://newstalkkzrg.com/2022/08/02/kans...amendment/
The "No" vote remains over 60%, with almost 60% of the vote in.
Here we have our first electoral evidence that the GOP is indeed the dog who caught the car with this issue. This happened in Kansas - no Democratic US Senator since the 1930s (longest streak in the country) and hasn't gone for the Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson. The end of Roe is not what America wanted, but the GOP base got what it wanted. Now it has to run on it.

This is exactly what the Supreme Court's decision in Dodd set forth. Let states decide.

It may look that way, but it isn't. This actually isn't a referendum on abortion yes or no in Kansas. It is about amending the state constitution to overrule a KS Supreme Court decision that Kansans have the right to obtain abortions. So, much like Dobbs, no abortions would be directly banned by this amendment. It would just overrule the court precedent to give the GOP controlled KS legislature the ability to do so if it chose to, just as Dobbs removed the issue from the federal courts and returned it to the states.
So what the voters in Kansas have resoundingly rejected is the very core of Dobbs, that their state legislature be allowed to make abortion policy again. The Sunflower State will be keeping its state constitutional rights instead, thank you!

You mean democracy? That’s all the overturning of Roe Vs Wade means. The people will vote on it or their elected representatives will decide. A non-elected 9 man panel will no longer issue a decree on the abortion issue as if we live in some monarchy. It’s crazy how the Jan6th Committee Democrats are all about the sanctity of democracy until it comes time to letting the people actually decide an issue.

I would argue that people voted against the unknown.
I believe had the amendment already been on the books and Kanasas had a more moderate abortion law of 10 to 12 weeks, the people of Kansas would not have voted to repeal. It appears they do not want a full on abortion ban, which is what I believe most thought they were voting against.
The state legislature made a major gaffe by not laying out their desire for what Kansas' abortion policy should be.
People fear the unknown and voted against the unknown

RE: August 2nd Primaries - Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington
People (pro-life Republicans included) get concerned about the life of the mother, & rape, & incest. I think that's what skewed the KS result.

RE: 5 Primaries tonight- Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington
Both Kari Lake and Blake Masters are crushing the in-person voting. With 60% of the vote in, Masters was +5 and Lake was -9. Now with 80%, Masters is +11 and Lake +4. Which leads to the question; why is there such a difference between mail-in republicans and in-person republicans?

Yes, it is. The people of Kansas using their ballots to influence abortion-policy within Kansas. That is precisely aligned with Dobbs.

LOL. That is not the “very core” of Dobbs.

Looks like Pinal county AZ tried their damnedest to defeate Kari Lake. They were busted earlier in the day electioneering. Now we find out that they mailed the wrong ballots to 63,000 people, and republican precincts ran out of ballots for a good chunk of the day.
