August 2nd Primaries - Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington
After a quiet July, primary season returns with 5 states up tomorrow!

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/35...primaries/

I think these are some of the most interesting races -

Arizona Governor - Trump endorsed former news anchor Kari Lake, while Mike Pence is backing the more mainstream Karrin Robson.

Missouri Senate - The GOP establishment has worked hard to avoid having scandal-plagued former Governor Eric Greitens possibly jeopardize this seat in the fall, and from the most recent polling it appears they may have succeeded. The candidate leading the latest polls is Attorney General Eric Schmitt. Trump promised an endorsement today but ultimately just endorsed "Eric", setting the stage to claim victory no matter which one wins.

Kansas abortion ballot measure - The KS Supreme Court has found a right to abortion in the state constitution, this ballot measure would remove that and allow the legislature to restrict/ban abortion if they choose. First test of Dobbs at the ballot box, and looks to be close even in a quite red state.

We want Lake in AZ governor primary, the KS measure to pass, Soldano in the MI Governor primary, & Gibbs in the MI primary. I don't know enough about the others nation-wide.

Full credit to Rep. Billy Long (R-Missouri) for most creative use of Trump's weaselly non-endorsement in the Missouri Senate race -

Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Billy Long ® tweets:

I coined the phrase ‘Trump Train.’ I’ve been with him through thick and thin but I was taken aback when he came out with a full throated endorsement of me in #MOSen race! He said to pick BETWEEN the two ERIC’s – that’s ME! E.S. line 2 E.G. line 4 I’m BETWEEN the two on line 3!

This comes after Eric Greitens ® and Eric Schmitt ® both claimed Trump endorsed them.

Michigan's in person voting system is such a clunky disaster.

No fewer than 3 poll workers had to verify everyone's ID.

So he said to pick between the 2 Eric's? The idiots on the Western board claiming he forgot or didn't know there's 2 Eric's.

You can apply to work if you desire. I applied last week.

And are you saying it took 3 people to verify you, or that you had to verify your ID three times?

It all depends on your precinct...and of course...if you go first thing in the morning you're going to be dealing with some folks who are still learning all the ins and outs and may be dealing with any system kinks.

I've been voting in Michigan for over a decade now, and have found the workers to all be very nice...and I've only had a few minor inconveniences. Certainly nothing to get very worked up about.

Billy is HILARIOUS to listen to on the radio when he does interviews. He knows he's got no chance in hell of winning anything in this election, but he's been calling out EVERYONE else on the ballot for every screw up they've done.. but he's done it with this "midwestern/southern charm" to his conversation style.

(I was seriously considering just throwing my vote Billy's way, just for entertaining me on the road to work in the mornings, but I'm holding off 'til after work so i can make my legitimate final decision at that point, as I really hope the Eric's don't split the vote for Vicki to sneak in.).

Don't vote Wrong.. vote for Long
Don't be silly.... vote for Billy.

that's normal...

You've got the person giving you your registration paper for your ballot.

Then a republican poll watcher and a democratic poll watcher who both have to agree that your identification is valid.

Not in Michigan...don't believe I've ever seen a poll watcher in Michigan. Not to mention, if they're a "watcher" that's pretty much all they can do. They have no authority to validate anyone. Michigan does have challengers who are allowed in the polling place, but they have strict guidelines. And I've not seen anyone challenge anything in the decade I've been voting in Michigan.

There is NOTHING cumbersome about voting in person in Michigan. You arrive, go to your precinct table, show your ID, sign a card, get a ballot, complete it, put it in the scanner, get your sticker.

Oh...the humanity.

So everyone should be able to do it on election day. Unless you are trying to cheat. DO mail in ballots have the same scrutiny as to who is getting/receiving the ballots as in -person voting?

We still live in a representative republic. People want mail in voting. I like to vote in person, others don't. But if everyone had to show up and vote on election day, the lines would be ridiculously long...especially in important presidential elections. There would be MORE issues and there would undoubtedly be people who would give up and decide not to vote. Some people have jobs and can't stand in line for hours to vote on election day. And if dolts like Lindell had their way, there would be NO machine counting and it would take DAYS and DAYS to count all the ballots.

And yes, mail-in ballots in Michigan...and pretty much every other state...get the proper scrutiny. If you don't feel they do, then you're more than able to petition your elected leaders to make changes. And it's still illegal to vote for someone else and they get caught all the time.
https://www.michigan.gov/sos/elections/h...te-by-mail

We've suffered for decades in this country with pathetic turnout so we end up with leaders who don't represent the majority of their constituents.

We should do everything humanly possible to increase turnout. But bottom line, there is NO perfect solution and their never will be. But we do need to keep striving to get it as perfect as possible. And with the challenges and record turnout in 2020, we did a damned good job of it.
