It wasn't until our first round of considering the SB as an option for joining, most of us were introduced to the school. Since that time, we've had a coach leave for them, became a conference mate, they come to BFS to play a game, and now McCloud. I've actually gained a lot of respect, but definitely laughed when they took EW off our hands. They are in a tough situation and doing very well as they move forward. I'm glad our paths have crossed and fighting this battle together. A decade ago, I had them categorized alongside FIU. TX State has left FIU in the dust.
Speak for yourself.
How time flies. It’s been almost a decade since Withers left JMU for TxSt. Before that, when TxSt was still FCS, and just before TxSt moved to FBS, the school made some noise in the playoffs with a special QB.
Perhaps it’s a matter of my being long(er) in the tooth here, but until JMU won its first NC, did 95% (maybe higher?) of JMU alums know the Dukes even had a football team?
The fact you are just now becoming aware of TxSt actually says more about you than TxSt, and is a comment that could easily be turned on its head by TxSt fans being unaware of JMU.
It’s all good, but with an enrollment approaching 40,000, TxSt is not in a “tough situation”l
When I attended JMU in the 90s I hadn't heard of Texas State, nor did I care and I was/am a big college football fan. Similarly I didn't know that Incarnate Word was a legit school until a few years ago so his story checks out.
Well you would not have heard of Texas State in 90's as it was still known as Southwest Texas State until 2003.
I probably didn't know/care about them either.

Speaking of Texas Div I schools, some useless trivia, they do have more (I came up with 22) than any other state. Think I mentioned this in another thread (maybe it was the recruiting one) with the talk of JMU recruiting (HS) players from Texas.

When I lived in the Dallas area, those 7 highlighted schools (plus Oklahoma and Oklahoma St) all got more media attention than North Texas. And other than SMU and TCU, they were the only other school in the Metroplex. Just a complete afterthought.

My wife and I lived just a few miles from UNT. Very good school, just not so blue-blood as SMU with all their Texas oil money donors. I really miss Texas.

Yep, I'd put my original knowledge of North TX about the same timeline as when TX State became a thing for me.
