RE: WAC MEN'S BASKETBALL WEEK #1
Thanks for getting it started, IT.

Random uninformed opinions:

Best opponents this season
UTA @ #10 Arizona
Tarleton @ #29 Virginia

Best opponent in a WAC home game
#15 San Diego State @ GCU

Worst opponent in a WAC away game
UTech @ Lake Erie College (D2)

The WAC Coaches Poll looks about right at the top and bottom. I could see 3 through 8 moving around quite a bit.
1. Grand Canyon (9) 99
2. Stephen F. Austin (2) 87
3. Seattle U 86
4. Utah Valley 61
5. Abilene Christian 60
6. Tarleton State 49
7. California Baptist 47
8. UT Arlington 43
9. Southern Utah/UTRGV 26
11. Utah Tech 21

Of course I'm biased, and as a Tarleton fan I literally know NOTHING about our totally revamped roster, but after watching our exhibition opener, we sure do have a LIVELY bunch! Tenacious and high-flying, look to be an imorovement over last year's squad. Virginia will have their hands full, that's for sure. I (modestly) see Tarleton finally getting a Top-3 finish this year. We are due. 04-cheers

At ACU we have high hopes, but we always do... But this time we have some fine returners and some impressive newbies. It will be a taller team overall so a key will be if the new players can play the stifling defense that Coach Tanner stresses. Offense should be fine and if taller and longer arms can learn the stifling defense, we should be pretty good. One thing about the WAC, there are strong basketball teams all around the conference. Oklahoma State, N.C. State, and Arkansas will be super tough but this team says they want the challenges, so we'll see. Talking with the players, they seem pretty excited about the coming season.

None of the Texan bigs played in the exhibition as they didn’t dress. It looked like freshman stud Kevin Paul had his hand in a cast.

Is this the first time we are playing a P5 so early in the season? I don't remember one as an opening game before. This will be interesting and not sure if we could even really use it to gauge us much, if at all. I know that after we play a few games we have a better feel for who we are.

I think so. We had the recent exhibition game that did not count, but with players rotating in and out and no one playing even half the game, that win is sort of meaningless. So the Cowboys are first up. Quite a task.

Wait, we have Bigs? The REAL Big Men we SIGNED in the offseason are gone. Paul will get his opportunities, but Gaddie plays the 5, and he had a really nice game against lowly HPU. Will be interesting to see how he does against stiffer competition. Actually all 3 returnees looked great, like they're much more comfortable playing in BCG's system.

About half-way through the first half, Wildcats up 9 on Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are huge favorites but the 'Cats have played well so far. Too early to know anything.

Texans lose at UVA 80-50.

We didn’t play well and zero PG play.

Let’s see what happens Thursday at FIU.

ACU up 11 on Oklahoma State at the half. 'Cats played a strong first half and the team looks like it has that strong defense that is their signature. The Cowboys only scored 25 points in the first half. Love our defense. I imagine OSU will get a chewing out and come out hard in the second half.

ACU currently up 44-28 over OSU with about 14 minutes left and Simmons just took 2 OSU players out taking it to the basket... They have completely shut OSU down. Let's hope we can keep it up.

I had been at the women's exhibition game with SAGU, so came in late as well. I'm not sure. I have never seen them before. They brought in a 3 point shooter freshman who started to close the gap, but we have been able to slow him down. Still not out of the woods yet though: 53-43 with about 7 minutes.

From OSU gamenotes

November is Native American Heritage Month, and OSU will mark the occasion by wearing its turquoise N7 uniforms. The jerseys are part of a continuing partnership with Nike and its N7 Fund, which focuses on helping youth in Native American and Indigenous communities in North America lead healthier, happier, and more successful lives. In Native American culture, the color turquoise represents harmony, friendship and fellowship.
