I would not give up the Kentucky game for any other those other opponents, and I wouldn't put either of the Big 10 schools ahead of UC for second (though I do have a lot of family connection to Purdue).
I don't think IU or Purdue is ready to sacrifice the Bucket game either, but they probably wouldn't have to since it's in conference (which would make it hard work into a rotation of series.
It would also be a little odd to have the Governor of Kentucky awarding something for that. We'd need a new name. :)

The Big Ten didn't allow us to have more than one rival anymore.

Feel your pain there. All of the long standing independent regional opponents are long gone, the in state ACC teams will probably never schedule us home and home again, and there's never really been a true conference rival for ECU. Closest thing that ever felt like it was USM, but kinda hard to have a true rivalry when you literally never interact with their fans in the wild. App will end up being the long term replacement for State in terms of in state OOC rival, and that will eventually be fun if ECU ever pulls its head out of its own arse. In conference in every other sport but football Charlotte will be a rival day 1, football they will be a rival but not one ECU fans will ever be happy about having as a rivalry. Navy is the next closest opponent, but it's just kinda hard to build any kind of mutual rivalry with Navy since they've got such established ones that will always mean a lot more than ECU ever could. So ehh it is what it is.

Battle of the Bones doe
Cool trophy but Memphis fans don't really care about the UAB football game. Hopefully the basketball rivalry gets reignited because of Gene Bartow. Yet to be seen.

Yup. All of the original CUSA football programs that didnt move up really got screwed on the rivalry front.

RE: If you HAD to: Which rival would you keep, which would you drop?
Iowa has 4 annual rivals and there is a trophy for each game.
Iowa St, Minn, Wisc, Neb
Most would say drop Iowa St but I like the annual in-state game in mid-September and I think it's good for the state and I think it makes perfect sense for Iowa and Iowa St every year. What does not make sense is playing 2G5 teams every year. So Iowa St stays.
I do not have strong feelings about Nebraska but I have grown to like the Black Friday tradition, so I want to keep the Black Friday game. So I would keep Nebraska unless the Black Friday game can be switched to another annual rival. Otherwise Nebraska stays.
The Minn game has the Floyd of Rosedale trophy so it's hard to drop that annual tradition.
The Wisc campus geographically is closest to Iowa City and makes for some great road trips every other year so that should stay.
So I would say change the Black Friday game to Iowa-Wisc instead and then dump Nebraska.
Many would lobby to add NW and ILL. I would like to add Mich but I am sure Mich would not mutually agree. So I would take ILL.

Florida: Tough choice between UGA & FSU, as one is an important in-state rivalry, the other is the beloved Cocktail Party...I'll say keep FSU, drop UGA, but hard to choose.
Liberty: I was initially going to say keep Coastal & make them an annual rival again, & no one else is a rival, but those NMSU games are starting to get fun, so keep them, drop Coastal.

Only one need every year is only one locked now. Michigan
If we locked someone else, my vote would actually be Illinois. The Penn State game might be bigger but schedule can be too top heavy and beyond that I am too much of a sucker for tradition. They were our first Big Ten regular season ending game and our are out only trophy game.

Speaking of In-state...
2024 UCF @ Florida:
Will Billy Napier get fired if Malzahn lead UCF beats Florida again?

They also play Miami and of course FSU. That butt could be on fire before midway through the season.

I was thinking something along the lines of the OKI Cup. The Governor’s of all three states could present it depending on the winner.

I guess then Ball St is now a permenant rival. ...
Being a rival of their rival doesn't make you their rival ... that game is just a scheduling convenience.
Just like we aren't rivals of Buffalo because Buffalo was one of the two schools without a rival who were added as third wheels to an existing two school rivalry.

Best cross-sectional rivalry since USC-Notre Dame. Nothing like a game between teams in states that border different oceans.
