I love Memphis, it's my hometown and after living in numerous other locations I keep returning to it, even if only peripherally this last time. However, that doesn't preclude me acknowledging that it's largely a shite-hole. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Here's the thing. Crime in Memphis isn't great right now. It's not every where. And most of the violent crime is between people who know each other. But it ain't great.

OTOH, anyone who pays attention and is planning a return trip to Memphis, very likely knows about the crime situation. It's unnecessary to bring it up in that type of thread. Just give him restaurant and hotel advice and move on.
