Yep, the very last one. I find it interesting how butt hurt these guys are over SMU getting into the ACC, and I disagree that we aren’t a brand. We just happen to be a brand that has been wandering in the non power conference wilderness for 40 years post death penalty.

They are right when they say it’s all about winning, but fail to mention that if we do win in the ACC, tv’s will be on in bars and homes in the largest metro area in Texas watching.

As for playing for free, we are basically doing that now in the American. We will make more money in the ACC even without our tv revenue share.

SMU peaked just in time. I still think it’s a raw deal for you guys that bring a competitive program and a large state for the ACCN. I could see a 1 or 2 year “buy in” period, but 9 years is a bit much. Glad you got the donors to make it work.

With hindsight, the B12 rebuild/expansion (BYU, Cincy, Houston & UCF) was timed perfectly. The SEC couldn't be sticklers when they just poached OUT, and the other power conferences were desperate to ensure that the B12 survives. Now the business priorities have changed.

The argument made by the commentators on the Monty Show regarding the lack of SMU's brand value only makes sense because G5 programs don't have the opportunity to build brand programs. The only saving grace is that there is only a two year window until the next CFP contract.

Congratulations to rookie Rashee Rice who started for the Chiefs and got his Super Bowl ring. Well played.

Yes. 50% of power-level CFP distributions in year 1 and 75% in year 2 is actually a reasonable compromise. IMO the big fear is what will happen with the PAC-2 and the CFP powers-that-be don’t want to set a precedent.

Assuming the new 12-team CFP generates the estimated $1.3B in media payouts, the compromise will still be a windfall for SMU.

Under the current revenue distribution formula, power programs will each likely make about $14M per season…while G5 programs will each increase to nearly $3M per season.

50% in 2024-25 = $7M ($4M more than if they had stayed in the AAC)
75% in 2025-26 = $10.5M ($7.5M more than if they had stayed in the AAC)
A two-year ramp-up is fairly quick. The difference between power and G5 distribution is huge.

So SMU gets full Share of ACCN which we know will at least be 11M plus CFP, ACC Unequal shares on top based on Sports Success>

2024:
11M +2.5M + Unequal shares. 13.5M minimum (more than 8.2M payout in AAC)

2025:
11M +3M + Unequal shares. 14M minimum (more than 8.2M payout in AAC)

Here is the deal. the ACC Network share will be more than 11M, but we do not know how much so I'm are keeping the number this low, but this is the floor, not the ceiling.

It’s a win win all around. We get saved from G5 purgatory, make more money, and make more money for our new friends too!
