That conference is better this year than ours.. They have some really good teams in that league.. I’ve watched a lot of games in that conference this year and they are actually pretty durn good and exciting to watch.. I just watched San Diego St. and New Mexico play and either one of those teams could win our Conference..

SDSU is good and has been for a while. The rest? psssh.

I saw all the hype last year because they got 4 teams in the tourney - talking about a new power in basketball, blah blah. Then I saw one lose in their play-in game, and 2 lose in their 1st round games - and none of them were even competitive. Of course SDSU went on their nice run.

I think the AAC was better last year and is pretty similar this year. One dominant team and then a bunch that could lose to anyone on a given night. The MWC just seems to be doing a good job of tricking the system.

San Diego State, New Mexico, Utah State, Colorado State, Boise State, and Nevada are all top 50 teams in NET.

Collectively, they have a 26-24 road record, a 19-4 neutral site record, a 23-26 Quad 1 record, and 4 Quad 3/4 losses.

The American top 6 teams in NET: FAU (29), SMU (40), North Texas (74), Memphis (80), Charlotte (98), South Florida (100).

Collectively, they have a 27-23 road record, a 12-9 neutral site record (FAU has 6 of the 12 neutral site wins), a 8-14 Quad 1 record, and 14 Quad 3/4 losses.

The comparison between conferences isn't close. The AAC is way behind the Mountain West, and they're behind the Atlantic 10. Conference matters and that's what the committee looks at.

The fact the Mountain West played 23 neutral site games and won 19 of them, is impressive.

Neutral is fine. What is the comparison of road games OOC?
You're citing NET rankings and NET quads. That's exactly what I'm talking about in tricking the system.
I guess we will see come tourney time. Maybe their 6 teams will have success for once in their history.

Name me an American team that has success in the NCAA tournament? Keep in mind, the conference that you're debating about did send a team into the national championship game.
As good as Houston was in the American, I don't think they reached the Final Four...

Again, they're not "tricking the system" they're just a better basketball conference than the American.

Houston before and FAU after.

IF being in the AAC is the problem?

What does it say that we're 7th in the standings?

It says that we’re not going to the big dance unless we win the AAC tourney.

And that is not going to happen.

I'm not so sure. This team had (has) a couple of significant issues, primarily the lack of ability to play the pressure defense Penny likes..Penny gets frustrated and yanks the players too quickly. IF we can settle on a different defensive strategy we should be very very good.

Despite the posters on this board who constantly criticize the offense has been good, including our 3-point shooting. With just a even decent defense there's no reason we cant win the tourney, especially if we win 3 of the last for or all of them and have a confidence boost.. We still have one of if not THE best roster in the league.

We can absolutely win out and be a 6-7 seed.. or we can lose the first game.

We are scoring points, which is good and can be perceived as good offense. The nights that we score a lot of points but give up double digit turnovers that result in easy points for the other team can give a different perspective on how good the offense is. When a team outscores us it is generally because of the defense, but can defense be blamed when you turn the ball over for an easy basket? That is the offenses' fault but looking at just numbers it reflects on the defense.
