I forgot we were even playing. Flipped on the game and saw we had given up 70 points in 25 minutes and just immediately turned to another channel...

In a heartbeat, yes.

Coaches like those are the only chance Memphis has to be great in FB or bb. Memphis and the AAC are mid-major. That is a fact. Mid-major schools hire up and comers that are climbing the ladder. If they do good yes they get hired away and move on up the food chain - if they don't then you fire them after 3-4 years.

The only other alternative is a retread looking to rebuild his reputation in a redemption tour - same thing there - if they do good they move up and if they don't they get fired in 3-4 years.

It is what it is.

Cal could have left for Arkansas, South Carolina, Pitt or NC State & didn’t.
Memphis’ conference is mid-major but Memphis’ bb budget, fanbase, facilities & commitment to basketball aren’t. We can hire a BB coach & expect to hold onto that coach if they perform… we don’t have to accept middling results.

Ya, the idea a BASKETBALL coach comes here and has success and then leaves for a Georgia, Rutgers, Washington State, etc. is silly.

Will they leave for a Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, of course but so would pretty much every other team's coach in the country...

I don’t think any of those level coaches are attainable at Memphis anymore. The conference is just too bad. Those schools (other than Ark) never gave a flip about hoops and all of them now have better coaches and a more stable program than Memphis. Yes, I know Ark is as big of a cluster F as Memphis is but the last 3 seasons they have been good. Actually they are a lot like the Tigers. Down for a long period making stupid hire after stupid hire until they finally shelled out the big $ for Musselman.

RE: What’s today excuse?
One of the biggest faults I have with Penny is he leaves good players on the bench when they come in and make a difference, a.l.a J. Pierre and in
the past has caused good players to leave the Tigers and play elsewhere. I wouldn't blame Pierre if he moved on. The guy can shoot and has a tremendous wing span. He has seen more playing time recently and hit 3 three pointers in a recent game. Just think how good he could be if he was developed from the get go. I am sure Penny believes Jayden is worth the P.T. he gets but do the results show it? No. How can the Tiger seniors be in the wrong place and give up wide open 3's and layups on a frequent basis? That's what is expected out of freshmen. When you watch other top teams your RARELY see that happening. And the terrible passing. It's is embarrassing and should be. We used to hear about graduation rates so how is that working out in the portal and NIL era? Why do assistant coaches last only one year? These things are more than likely too late to think about now anyway but I got it off my chest. fwiw.

Maybe... But does that mean you hang onto mediocrity for fear of not being able to land a coach like them?

Except for Penny, and that's why I'm willing to see if Penny can restructure his team-building theory with next year's team. I hope he has learned that just getting the most talented players, and thinking they will change their ways that got them kicked off their previous teams will not work.

Too legit to quit ??? But you just said you quit watching !!!! Hmmm. Sounds like you are giving up to me. What will you say if we win the conference tourney ?

Yea, it's a saying ... it doesn't correlate to the team. Tigers are a BIG part of my life but I'm definitely realistic too. The product on the court is absolute trash. Coaching, players, etc. ... it is trash. I won't support trash. Until they change their ways, they aren't getting my attention.

Yep. My sentiment exactly. Will not watch another game this year. This team is dead to me. It's time for the media to take off the gloves and call it like it is. We need an answer right now. Is it the players or the coach or both?
I don't know, but my sincere hope is that it's all on the players. But that's really hard to believe.

But it's the same players that won 10 in a row and beat some pretty good teams. Virginia is ranked 21st. The Aggies have been pretty impressive here lately. Something none of us are being let in on with the team is going on. Most 'all' of the portal guys have previously bounced around 3 or 4 schools for some reason. At first the problem was because they were new to each other and hadn't played together, BUT they played better then. Maybe the truth will come out when the current squad is headed home in March.

No, but Memphis is going to have to pay a pretty penny (no pun intended) to land a top notch coach once this Hardaway experiment ends. They absolutely cannot miss a 4th time in a row. That may even mean overpaying to try and keep up with p4 salaries because this conference is so bad. Not sure if the funds or the desire to spend them are there amongst the big $ folks

Only Fred Smith could turn around this program around.. Either pressure Penny to resign or buy out his contract.. This sh*t is not gonna change.. Tigers will be irrelevant until 2028.

Once again we’ve made one great hire since Dana , sorry Larry. The odds of us hiring well are really long

Ok, I'll bite: What's magical about 2028? I have one idea, but I want to see what your reason for that year is....
