Penny was unfairly critized by the national media his first couple of seasons-- he has been treated with kid gloves by the local media and still is.

I think Penny is a good coach but he has to:

1- learn how to recruit without over promising

2- take Conference opponents seriously-- I believe this is the cause of much of this teams problems -- they STUPIDLY thought the conference games would be easier than the OOC games-- they got this idea straight from Penny

3- Stop subbing like a madman..

4- STOP coddling players and NEVER EVER take back another QUITTER

Good post.
I think your first point is interesting because recruiting is changing with NIL. All about the $$$. Last year it worked for Penny with Kendrick and some role players - Damaria, Elijah, Kennedy (not so much with Kao). This year it blew up on him. Will be interesting to see this recruiting class.

What gets me is that outside of Brown, the transfers have mostly played the most minutes. I think Malcolm coming back messed up the Brown situation. He wasn’t on the DR trip. I know he’s everyone’s favorite now, but I’ll be glad when he’s finally out of eligibility

RE: Penny is a target of unwarranted negativity
Malco is an enigma. Some of his best games are losses this year. So he's not really leading the team to victory. He has been vocal in press conferences, and this team is definitely void of player leadership. But I sense that the team and even Penny doesn't really trust his leadership.

You like it when he continually shoved our best player in the back or when he let Drew Timme run wild ?

His attitude and work ethic have been an issue from day 1... Penny should not have let him back on the team.

From early on, Penny wanted all the smoke. I guess that's what he's dealing with now. Sometimes you get more than you ask for....

I always hated the "smoke" business. He says that, then complains when he feels people are piling on either the team or on him. Ok, Penny. How has that been working for ya? He still has a player's mentality, which doesn't work as a coach.

He’s had an assistant coach go on radio and talk about his lack of work ethic. 2022 loafed down the court vs Gonzaga. 2023 continually shoving Kendrick Davis. This season Penny insinuated that some players didn’t want to play with him. Now this. But he still gets the loudest applause when introduced. Memphis baybee he cares
