Washington State made a pitch to the ACC and was rebuffed.
WSU President Kirk Schulz acknowledged for the first time that Washington State made a pitch to the ACC and was rebuffed.

“The original proposal we made was take all four of us, we could be a West Coast pod and they came back two days later and said we're interested in talking to Cal and Stanford, we have no interest in adding Oregon State and Washington State. I don't say this proudly. Like, there's a great thing.”

He also admitted WSU pitched the Big 12 conference, and Big Ten. “Not a chance,” he said of the Big Ten.

If we could squeeze OSU and WSU like we did SMU..... we might be able to do something.

We charter football and basketball so no issue getting there but try getting other sports to their locations. We better get a travel subsidy if they are added.

Traveling to Oregon State is not so bad, but Washington State is in the middle of nowhere.

I know that nobody wants to hear this, but if WSU is added, then BSU would be a nice travel partner for them and enhance ACC football a little. I know I know...

Yeah it’s kinda obvious that the ACC didn’t want them. I mean the ACC barely managed to invite Stanford and Cal, which are much better fit than WOSU.

People used to complain about travel to Blacksburg. Look up where Pullman is if you aren't familiar. They're a short walk away from the University of Idaho.

If WSU isn't wanted, OSU should push to join with SDSU together for 4 teams on the pacific coast.

When WSU and OSU take the SMU route, they will be taken in by the ACC. They will have enough PAC 12 money to tide them over for a little while.

Good thought and I think them gumming up the playoffs give them a bit more leverage over ESPN. I'm hoping the ACC can take them both at pro-rata.

OSU is located in the Portland Combined Statistical Area (3.2 m people). Their location is about two standard deviations better than WSU. Now they are the number 2-3 draw in that market because so much of that market is located in Washington State. Oregon is first in the overall market. OSU and Washington are probably nearly tied for 2nd. WSU is going to be a distant fourth in the market.

There are some real demographic issues in that part of the Country.

If you cut off Eastern Washington east of Washington 21 and combined that with the North of Idaho, and Montana to the Rockies, you might have something. Put the State Capital in Couer D'Alene. Call the new State - New Columbia. Rename U Montana in Missoula to New Columbia U. WSU to New Columbia State, and U of Idaho to New Columbia Tech.

When I was combing through the ratings, both OSU and WSU did better than expected. Their rivalry games with UW and UO of course helped them a lot, but there were other games that did better than Cal and Stan. The late night window slot probably helped them. It still does not change that it's a lot of travel.

I'm not sure how far you went back, but don't forget WSU had Mike Leach as a coach and were winning 10+ games a year for a few years. They got really good ratings then that they probably don't get now.

Just this past 2023 season. I could not find an entire Pac12 ratings recap like I did with the other P4 conferences, the Pac12 games were listed via B1G, ACC, B12. I could possibly piece meal most of the Pac12 games in this way and I may just do it for a quick look to see if I can get more confirmation on WOSUs value.

TRUE.

Basically everyone on the West Coast lives within a few miles of the ocean. Further inland you'll find nothing but Bigfoot.

The Pac2 should join Big12. Take the Pac12 networks and convert them to Big12 networks. They would probably join at a discount and have ESPN or Fox Take over the network operations.

That's a good idea. A lot of investment went into the Pac-12 network, it would be a shame to let it all go to waste.

Of course ESPN would have to agree too it. There's no point in having a network without Disney to push it with their channels package.

People, I have driven in all 50 States, 9 Canadian Territories, PR, and most of Europe (I think I have outstanding warrants out for speeding in Quebec, Manitoba, Germany, and France)

The only places scarier than the Pallouse is the wheat belt in Manitoba/Alberta/Saschatewan, the AlCan highway between Tok and Whitehorse Yukon, and the Nevada/Oregon land between Pyramid Lake and Boise.

It's distance and vastness that are Biblical and makes Blacksburg/Christiansburg look like a metropolis. Makes Tallahassee seem just around the corner. Makes Western Kansas seem tolerable.
