Who said the turnovers were all on the PGs? That was on the whole team. That's only one game, but the perimeter defense was bad all year, including the current two PGs.

JMU WBB in WBIT Tournament 2024
TPG..complete control of the offense and a "coach" on the floor. Stabilizing force for the team. Slows the team down when they are rushing. High assist to t/o. And the ability to break down the defense and create opportunities for teammates whether it shows up as an assist or not.

When you have 30 plus turnovers....it is a group effort . But better handles takes some of that pressure off.

Not trying to touch a nerve. That was my take while watching in real time.

I've given up trying to explain the virtues of a floor general. It exists here on the board. And quite frankly, I don't believe Sean values it as much as some other coaches do either. If you don't get it...you won't get it. It is what is is. Still love our Lady Dukes.

What about the virtues of good team defense? Opposing guards look at JMU on the schedule and think, "Sweet, we may lose, but I'm going to have a career game! I might drop 30 on them."

RE: JMU WBB in WBIT Tournament 2024
There were several head scratching moments in the game Thursday night.

1. Both Koslova and Goodman start. That never seemed to work - not sure if they did not know their role or could not execute it well. I don't think they had both started in any other game all season. Why start now?

1A. Tynes never played in this game. If Koslova and Goodman aren't able to hit shots or defend well, why not put Mikaya in? She could not have done any worse.

2. What was up with Jamia? She hardly played and was very inconsistent in the minutes she did play. Something seems to have happened between her and Sean....sort of sad to see. I would not be surprised to see her leave in the off season.

3. Everyone seemed to rely on Peyton the second half of the third quarter and fourth quarter. While she had the hot hand, there were four other capable players on the court who could have made an impact.

4. Once again, too many instances of a JMU player going coast to coast. While it did work a couple of times, it was very frustrating to see JMU running into three Stony Brook players and losing the ball. I have never understood why Sean permits this....but he does. It has been happening all season.

I was a Sean fan when he was an assistant and I was thrilled when he got the head coaching job. Over the years I have become less and less impressed with his coaching abilities. I think next year could and probably should be a proving year for him.

The off season will be very interesting with the transfer portal. I hope McDaniel, Koslova and Tynes stay. I think Sterling has potential to become a good point guard but I hope that is an recruiting emphasis.

Just my opinions.

It could many jumping through the portal. 3 starters not named Kozlova lost their spots. 2 of those still probably got about the same amount of time. The other's minutes were reduced and barely played in the WBIT game. Two others will see little time the rest of their careers unless they transfer elsewhere. One other might think she's ready for P4 competition. Looking back at the Stony Brook game, the players on the floor and minutes distribution might make more sense now. Maybe some of the players had already made their decisions and the coaches still let them dress for/play in the game.

Jamia wants to become a coach and has said elsewhere) that she will most likely stay here. She's not interested in going pro. Bristow and Miller are done. Goodman seems most interested in her education. I don't know who you're talking about otherwise, why not stop being oblique and just name names?

RE: JMU WBB in WBIT Tournament 2024
Look at the roster. The Marshall transfer is yet one more 5'8-9"ish score first guard. By the way, she was suspended at Marshall then left the team. So including Hazell and Mullins that's 6 similar players jockeying for the same position(s). Mullins has already transfered once. Hazell will have to ride the pine and possibly slide further down the depth chart. She's in the doghouse, most likely permanent. Ouderkirk is an afterthought now. Basically used to give someone else a rest. Tynes won't get any significant minutes unless something happens to Kozlova or Goodman. If she wants to play, either develop a face the basket/mid range game over the off-season or transfer. Amira Williams had some chances, but it's not working out. Maybe all of those players really enjoy JMU and playing time is not important. Doubtful. McDaniel could get lured away ala Kiki if the price is right.

Based on comments from McDaniel and Coach O, I think McDaniel wants to stay with Coach O. Pretty sure they were in the WBIT postgame interviews (found them on youtube).
They both talked about the struggles that she has had (particularly the mental game) and how Coach O has been a huge part of her development. He seems to really know how to work with her and she has thrived.
While there's no doubt she'd probably get NIL money elsewhere, I'm not so sure she would be a better player elsewhere. I think if WNBA is her goal, Coach O seems to be the one that can get her there.
It certainly helps that they both seem to respect each other.

JMU is the best place for McDaniel. I don't think she has the lateral quickness/foot speed needed to defend at a higher level. She's a proven scorer, though. Good for instant O.

Steph is in a fairly rigorous academic program (Biophysical Chemistry) so I think she will stick around till she graduates. Not sure how many other schools she would consider would offer her a program like that or be happy with the academic requirements re athletics tht the program requires. My older daughter was in a similar chem program when she was an undergrad at JMU and the amount of course work is considerable especially if one is also doing research. So just speculating here. Also she is a local Valley resident so I would think she would want to stay close to home to finish things up.

Before there was professional women's sports opportunities, a lot of female players would quit their sport after their junior year so they could concentrate on their studies and their life going forward.
