RE: 2024 Spring Football Portal opens up April 15
More importantly with the portal closing, our coaching staff knows exactly what we need to replace and knows exactly what the pool of transfers looks like. Nothing worse than jumping on a guy early in the portal season than finding out at the deadline there were 5 better options at that position. Our coaching staff can now evaluate the entire pool and start prioritizing offers.

On another note I highly doubt Ponds end up at IU. He has over 20 offers with the only one I would consider worse than IU being FAU.
Has offers from all the Florida schools, Auburn, Tennessee, plus many other P5's.

My only wish for these guys is that if they make the big time and actually start making a name for themselves that they give JMU a shout out in interviews for giving them their start. There is no way Ponds is at Auburn as a true sophomore without the development and platform JMU gave him. Don't fault the guy at all for leaving, but don't forget the place that helped kickstart the career, without us (by us meaning, the FCS and G5 schools), who knows what happens to these hidden gems.

It’s annoying as a fan of JMU, but he’s making the right choice for himself. Reminds me a lot of the kid from Toledo that just got drafted by the Eagles. Hope he gets what he wants.

The kid from Toledo is now the extreme rare exception, loyalty from the player is only as deep as the bag he’s handed. He sat still, didn’t jump into the portal even when the top schools were tampering with him, and he was still the top player taken at his position in round 1.

Slight topic switch - but does anyone know how many starters we have returning from last year? Can't be many. Oline players might be returning? Anyone want to BDK this answer?

Admittedly, I haven't been following the last few weeks too closely, so something may have happened, but I believe our OL is in pretty good shape.Wyatt is back, then Potts, Morris, and Sweazie and Toner. You can argue who of the last couple would have started if everyone was healthy, but that is pretty solid and we should have good depth.
Unfortunately, not a single other offensive starter is back.
On defense, we have Jacob Thomas, full stop. Taurus Jones has started in the past, but otherwise...
On the bright side, I think punter Ryan Hanson is back, so other teams will still have a looong way to go to get into scoring position.

Best I can guess is Wyatt, Morris, and Potts on the OL (maybe Toner too). No one else on offense. On defense, it's pretty much just Logan, Thomas, and I guess Taurus counts to some degree.
