If the place is named after Bank of Oklahoma, shouldn't it be called the B.O. Center? lmfao
We'd only call it that if Rice and SMU are playing in a first-round matchup, because then the play would reek bad enough to justify the name... lmfao
Hey, CG, have you checked the hoops standings recently? You think your B.O. don't stink? lmfao

The best location is a city where the CUSA tournament will be an event, and not just something drowned out by the NBA and/or NHL.
the only way it gets to Tulsa would be at ORU's arena...TU's is to small.
Go Tigers!!!
Drew
ORU's arena is a joke. Sure its big, but it is not a good venue to watch a basketball game. The Tulsa Sports Commission is currently trying to get the CUSA Championship to Tulsa, but their bid is based on the new BOK Center which will be completed in 2008. So if Tulsa gets the basketball championship it won't be until 2009.

i have always been a skeptic of all the new arenas that are always about to be built...not a knock on Tulsa...but i'll believe the arena when i see it.
Quote:and is much better local then Memphis...
in what way is Birmingham a better local than Memphis...we have more hotels...a better arena...more fans...and more downtown amenities than b-ham...and of course we have a better team ...so do explain please.
Go Tigers!!!
Drew
I'm not going to say B'ham is better than Memphis. I also know that Memphis has more things to see and do, in the vicinity of the arena than B'ham. But B'ham has more than enough amenities and hotels, and has the arena to hold this event. Flights in and out increase every year, and in a couple years there will be interstate access from each direction (I-22 from Memphis). The exhibition hall which sits next to the arena, can also be used to house a fan interactive event. Something like fanfare that the SEC has. I know Memphis has more interest in Basketball than B'ham, but the interest in the Blazers has never been better in this city! I know for a fact UAB would fill up more than half of the BJCC(18,000 seats). With Memphis being so close. I would expect at least 2,000 to 3,000 tiger fans for the opening rounds, and then even more than that, as the tourney gets to Friday and Saturday. I think attendance will pretty much always be down in this tourney on opening day, but the quarters and semis will be fine. If UAB and Memphis make the finals in B'ham. I pretty much guarantee a sellout.
Who cares if you think you can guarantee a sell-out IF UAB and Memphis make the finals. How much money are you willing to guarantee IN WRITING if the final is between Marshall and SMU? See that's the difference between Memphis and Birmingham. Memphis said to CUSA. Ok, we are going to pay you a certain amount of money no matter what happens and we'll guarantee it in writing. CUSA allowed other cities the chance to also make offers but apparently no other cities were willing to take the financial risk that the city of Memphis is willing to take. The tournament should go to the highest bidder.
I agree it should go to the highest bidder. I know that other cities were given the opportunity to take the tourney. But I think this year, with the conference realignment and everything. I just don't think any of the other cities were willing to make any sort of guarantee, because they really didn't have a feel for how the conference would fare, or the new teams coming in. I think C-USA felt more comfortable in Memphis anyway. Memphis knew they would have a good team this year. Memphis has a good fanbase. So I think it was easier for Memphis to make that guarantee. But I think as other cities get a feel for C-USA. You will see other cities make better bids. But C-USA has to get better in general for that to happen. I think it will.

i think maybe New Orleans...by next March NO Arena will be fine...it only had minor damage and the Hornets will be back playing games there...it might be good for the NO economy...and i'm sure the people there are missing all the sports they had.

FEDEX Forum ... Beale Street and the other amenities make this a no brainer. A Coyote Ugly club is going to be added during the Summer of 2006 and there are a number of other things being planned for the Beale Landing and Entertainment District area.

When comparing NOLA and Memphis for non-basketball activities, NOLA wins hands down. I mean, Coyote Ugly? It's about as genuine as Hooters. Just go to a strip club and keep it real.

There is no comparing New Orleans with any city in C-USA for non-basketball activities. However, Memphis fares well compared to the other cities. And the area directly surrounding FedExForum is much better and more convenient (as far as having a confernce tournament) than the area surrounding the NOLA Arena. If you haven't been there imagine an arena at Bourbon and Canal.

New Orleans is a great city and will be an even greater city. I don't understand why you must constantly put down a city that is in our conference. And a city that means so much this nation, historically and culturally.
I would love to see the tourney in NOLA. Great city, great time. That and my dad lives in Slidell so I would have a free place to stay.

I lived in New Orleans 25 years, Memphis is no New Orleans, and I certainly agree it wins the race for non-basketball related activities. But I wouldn't sell Memphis short in the genuine grit and soul category. There's plenty more to do downtown than go to chain bars.

It was much easier making that wisecrack since we're 3-0 this year against the Owls and Ponies. I think y'all's B.O. smells worse than ours... :gasp:

Watched any TV over the last 6 months Coog? You might have heard of a little windstorm and water problem that the folks of New Orleans had about 190 days ago.
Contributed any $ for Katrina relief, Coog?....or to any other charity in your lifetime? Good Lord man, have you no respect or sympathy for what those folks have been through?
Tulane and the folks in New Orleans have been warriors through this. They deserve our best wishes, thoughts and any support we can give them.
What really surprises me is that I thought that like Memphis; Houston was one of the cities that the Katrina victims settled in while NO was being rebuilt. Those that we've help here through church, Red Cross, etc are first class folks that just need help. They're just like you and me, topcoog.........you and me. Oh but for an address change, there walks you and me, needing help. Your comments are offensive to those that are in need at this time through no fault of their own....and it could have been you.

I'm watching "the season" on ESPN and they are following the Tigers on their trip to New Orleans. Watching the Tiger tour of the city and the lower ninth ward and then reading something like the above post makes most reasonable people sick at their stomach. Coog, if I were you , a serious apology would be at the top of my list to all Tulane fans and New Orleans natives.

Highest seed hosts throughout the tournament. Gauranteed very good crowds at all the home venues (well, almost all) since tournament advancement is on the line. This year Memphis would host 3 straight games but Memphis would not have to suffer the attendance hit by hosting games between teams that no one in Memphis cares much about.
In that scenario are all games at Memphis, or does each individual game happen at the highest seeds place?
Each game happens at the highest seed home court. It would have to be spread out over maybe 6 days instead of 3 or 4 to accomodate the travel.

That's what the lower conference do. Heck, even the mid-majors don't do that ****.

If you top 4 schools would be more like the rest of us, then we could be less than a mid-major.

It would never work in this spread out conference. One team could essentially fly from ECU, to UTEP, To Marshall, to Orlando, to Memphis. What a nightmare.
