The people who found each other on the first day found each other because of the scan for discoveries button which was added for people to find other people.

Even if it has no multiplayer capability, it's ridiculous to be mad about it when there was never any substance to the multiplayer

I'm certainly not mad about it, I love the game and it has exceeded my expectations.

I wonder about the scope of the outrage. Is it wide spread or just coming from the vocal minority on social media that wake up in the morning looking for something to complain about.

Outrage typically only comes from the vocal 1% of people, because it is always easier/more visible to be negative than positive. I think the vast majority of general gamers who actually knew what the game was are liking it quite a bit. The dummies who thought this was going to be a 1st person shooter in space are the ones who are pissed due to their own ignorance.
