You're right -- this isn't crappy. This is pathetic.

while the shooting this game hasnt been the best, the main reason for the low scoring is phenominal defense.
one reason that scoring has been down in recent years is that as NBA players continue to get bigger, but the court space hasnt grown, it has become easier to defend more space on the court. I read an article that said that in a couple of years they might be expaninding the court size.
Until then enjoy the great athletic defense

i agree with the fact that the league is awful. This isn't basketball, it's arena football. I cannot watch this NBA playoff garbage.

You all do not know what good basketball is. You have to see screaming fans and 190 point games. You can't appreciate the true beauty of the game.
And tysramm is right. Put Ben Wallace in the 1970's and he is the best defender ever.

Right....
BTW, LL, Ben Wallace went to college - Virginia Union. Couldn't even hit layups tonight. So much for your "learning fundamentals in college" theory.
Fundamentals are supposed to begin LONG before college. Are there people that would rather dunk the ball than hit an 18 ft jump shot - hell yes, because Sportscenter will show it. But the likes of Ben Wallace and, opposite site of the spectrum, Jermaine O'Neal, they have their own speciality. BW is a rebounder, JO is a scorer and rebounder. Where did JO succeed despite college compared to BW and 4 years of college?
I appreciate D as much as anyone, but there were simply a lot of missed open shots tonight. But that doesn't change anything about this discussion - why should players feel an obligation to go to college rather than going directly to the NBA? (Keep in mind that in college, coaches are only allowed 20 hours a week in "teaching", while in the NBA it's your job).

JD Heel Wrote:My problem with all of pro sports is that nobody seems to care about the average fan these days. The NBA has, in my mind, always been the worst about this... but none of the major sports leagues is really adept when it comes to this. Everyone forgets who is actually footing the bill for everybody -- it's the fans.
Another random thing that sucks about the NBA: why do they play friggin' circus music every time the ball is brought up the court? Have you ever been watching a game and just taken a second to sit back and listen to the circus music... and think about how silly that is. I mean, to me it says that the game itself is not good enough to stand alone -- it takes music along with the game to keep the fans entertained. There's no other major sport that I know of that has music going on during the action.

I'm not sure I agree with all this. I mean, yes, I agree that the play is far from its offensive peak, but I don't believe that the NBA doesn't consider the average fan while trying to make the experience more interesting to average fans.
They try to create party atmospheres. Not college frat party atmosphere, mind you, but fun, constant sensory overload type of parties. Hence the circus music and during timeout silliness, etc. Done for the average fan, not the hardcore BB fan. Also, the Pacers (at least) were offering $14 and $24 tickets to 2nd round playoff series home games - I sat in the $24 seats, and while there was not a row behind me, they were hardly horrible seats. So there are options for the average fan that do not cost $70/seat.
Personally, I'm a college football guy, so I can fully understand not wanting to pay big money to go to an NBA game. But I don't think they're trying to rake people over the coals anymore than any other sport.

Folks, you can call it great defense that produced some of these low-scoring games -- and I'll admit the defense in the Pistons-Pacers series was great -- but the shooting was horrific. And, it wasn't all from great defense. There were many wide-open looks that clanked off the rim.
By the way, I don't much enjoy the 190-point scorefests, either. I do love to see good defense played, and those games are like all-star games where everyone plays lazy defense. But, I enjoy the offensive skill that is shown off in those games. I just wish I could watch basketball that put it all together -- the way it used to be.

Again, just because somebody can't score does not mean he is not a great player. It is not all about scoring.

Yes. Kareem was not a stellar defender. Very good, but not great like Wallace.

Wallace is far from just a help defender if you watch him enough. He is also much more versatile, he can guard on the perimeter.
You said he is better than Okafor. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. College v. NBA. Thats all that need be said.
