i agree with most of that and i'm not fully blaming the NBA for what these guys do, because, as you said, they are put on a pedestal at a young age.

i will say this, their crimes should be noticed more than crimes by an average person. these guys should be held to a higher standard. why? because they get paid millions of dollars, and there is a certain way you are expected to act when you make that much money. There is no reason for marcus camby to steal to a TV. Obviously rape is rape and all of it should be villified, but if these guys are going to, on average, get away with a slap on the wrist, then their crimes should also receive more attention.

I contend that we should treat them (and all people with wealth and influence) in the same manner that you or I would get treated. Thus, no slaps on the wrist for their actions.

Remove the pedestal.
