Doubtful, in my opinion. SMU got it for being a repeat offender and uncooperative in the investigation.

Now if the same guy that investigated GT gets the Miami case, Miami will probably be nuked from orbit as punishment.

Reb, LSU didn't find it so easy to beat up a northern team @home last year. They'll find it's even more difficult when they come up to Morgantown... 05-mafia

I think that's an empty argument. The NCAA has used the Death Penalty twice in the last 10 years.

... to Division 2 Soccer and Division 3 Tennis program. Morehouse and MacMurray aren't really bringing any publicity, good or bad, to the NCAA. Playing professional athletes, and offering scholarships in a no-scholarship division are different than what happened at Miami. Illegal, probably. Worthy of a death penalty, doubt it.

I'd say take away 1 scholarship for 2 years for each player that received improper benefits-spacing out 72 scholarships at 2 years each in football would essentially make Miami an FCS program (maximum of 63 scholarships) for 7 years. Let Golden and the kids who did nothing wrong go to the postseason, but make them pay back 50% of the bowl revenue until they have paid back all of the postseason revenue earned by ineligible players (with interest).

RE: Will Miami get the death penalty?
I'd give all Miami players the option of transferring and being immediately eligible to play at their new school, or sitting through Miami's death penalty period before they can play again. That way the university is punished for their careless disregard for the rules throughout their history, and the only kids who are punished are those who choose to be...

Rubbish. SEC schools that get caught are punished, and it's happened many times before. Admit it, you just don't like the SEC beating up on your little schools up North.

That's a key element right there. The fact that "it's happened many times before" means that the punishments against the SEC teams haven't been serious enough to make them change their ways. Hell, it seems like they just spend the time on punishment laying the groundwork for their next scam so that they can win a championship as soon as they get off probation.

It happens in every conference. You have to realize, violations aren't always as blatant as what you saw with SMU. It can be a small infraction and still warrant an investigation.

Ok.
LSU's chances of winning at WVU may have just increased. I never thought much of Jefferson as a QB. With Jefferson facing a felony battery charge, LSU just might have to play a real QB this year...
