RE: Net Flix / no more dvds
I think that with all the video stores closing and the cost of movie tickets going up, Netflix has to compete with making some money. I hate the fact that they are raising prices, but I will still pay for the DVD's and the streaming both, but $16.00 a month does seem a little high.

Not too surprising that they're getting a head start. If that article is close to accurate and Netflix can't figure a way to find more agreeable terms, 60% is just a drop in the bucket.

i thought this was common knowledge? It's not that their prices are about to be too high. It's that their prices were always too low. They got favorable streaming contracts from the studios when streaming wasn't a big market. Those licenses are now expired and streaming is a much bigger market than it used to be. Thus the studios are demanding more money for new licenses. Netflix is passing the cost onto the consumer. Not shocking

Movie piracy from bootleg cuts to dvd rips being posted on the internet for streaming or w/e are making/forcing the Studios to get money however they can. Also, they are trying to cut down the time a movie ends at the theaters and hits the dvd/br/stream market. The price increase may or may not be warranted but a doubling of the price without improving offerings or picture quality in the streaming can lead to dissatisfied customers too.

I don't see how Red Box is much of a threat because they only carry "new" movies, generally no tv shows on dvd. Also, from those who I know who use it is that it is fine if you do what you need to do in one night for rental but once you get into extended time the fees they charge you add up to not being a better deal than going to a Blockbuster or equivalent.

Price increase started this month. @ $17 I'm not sure what I am going to do since not everything is on streaming.

I'm plowing through my (huge) DVD list as fast as possible. Some of these DVDs are ONLY found on Netflix, like Rowan Atkinson's live sketch comedies.

I just stick with streaming. I rarely get to watch it anyway, so I'm not really hurting.
