Wow...not really a Notre Dame defender but to say they have no rivalry games like the old days is just plain ridiculous.

Two of the biggest games of the college football regular season are the following:

1. Notre Dame-Southern Cal
2. Notre Dame-Michigan

Those two games are right up there with these games:
Florida-Georgia
Texas-Texas A&M
Texas-Oklahoma
Auburn-Alabama
Florida-Florida State
Miami-Florida State
Ohio State-Michigan

"They aren't good enough for the Big Ten" ......

..and yet Jim Delaney plots for ways to ensnare the Irish and ND has turned down the Big Ten twice since 1999.

ND played in BCS bowls after the 2000, 2005 and 2006 seasons. I guess that is "years".

They got their asses whipped in those games. No one disputes that the past 15 years constituted the worst stretch in ND's history.

I'd attribute that to bad coaching hires, but the present day head coaching dynasties of Bob Davie, Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis present a glaring counterpoint to my argument.

An independent schedule had nothing to do with the mediocre results of the past decade and a half. Poor coaching did.

And they say ND fans are stuck in the past. The past is as dead as fried chicken (stealing a line from Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction).

I am looking forward to the future, maybe mistakenly. I just think that ND may have made a good coaching hire in Brian Kelly. Time will tell.

This guy's post was clearly a drive by.....

It's unfathomable to think that ND would turn down the Big 10 and accept an invite to the Big XII. It simply makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If you think about it for more than one second you realize that it will never happen.

Kelly has won everywhere that he's been and I don't expect anything to be different at ND.

Whether we like it or not, ND intersectional games like USC and Michigan have national appeal. The World's Largest Cocktail Party or Miami-FSU does not get the same level of attention.

Why would someone not like the appeal of intersectional games like ND/USC?

If someone said " I just didn't like that game", I would understand.

But, why would someone not like the fact that others like it, that it may have national appeal? That makes little sense to me.

Like Jack said, most of the speculations and rumors are pure garbage. Oliver Luck also said in a recent article that WVU had no talks with SEC or ACC. Regardless, there will be multiple threads on the expansion forum stating WVU is in secret discussion with the ACC and WVU.

Football season starts this Thursday, finally!

Luck is a good lawyer.

I suggest you parse his words CAREFULLY.

You're right Terry....and if this is the case I will actually stop bashing ND and callng you guys leeches 03-nerner

This is a real possibility, but...Marinade is going to have to get off his duff too.

Anyway, you could argue that it was ND that was a big factor in saving the BEAST the last time too.

No Big Ten expansion, no poaching of Pitt, Syracuse and/or Rutgers.

ND wants a strong BE for basketball and Olympic sports.

It works with NBC/Comcast and the BE on a new TV deal.

Notre Dame and the other basketball schools may help convince cable companies to include the new BEN (Big East Network) on some of the cable packages thus resulting in more money from people who subscribe to those packages whether they watch Big East sports or not.
