North Texas

UT San Antonio

Middle Tennessee St.

New Mexico St./FAU

This looks absolutely terrible.

Tulsa. Rice and UTEP to the MWC. if 3 go at once......If only one, probably the Big East. The MWC would be fine with me, especially if Boise goes back to the MWC. Either one is a heck of a lot better than where we are!!!

No kidding, this new C-USA is comically bad.

RE: Realignment Assignment
This will effect recruiting big time - immediately IMO.

We have been talking about this "adnosium" for many months and how this would effect us. The fact that TU was so passive from Bubba (now we know why he jumped a sinking ship ASAP) on down shows me that some of our criticism and concerns all along were well founded. Wojcik should have been gone long ago to strengthen the MBB program sooner and the Admin should have been on top of this from the gitgo.

We (the posters) seemed to have been better informed and more concerned about this than some of them. Their "wait and see" attitude just stinks. IMO

What really hurts is that the media stories from TU kept giving us this malarky about trying to keep the league together, letting it build and giving it a chance. But anyone with eyes could see that the programs coming into this conference who had never fielded a CFB team was ridiculous and a big pile of doodoo.

RE: Realignment Assignment
I just don't understand how people aren't seeing the writing on the wall with all this... You have morons like Tallgrass on the main board talking about how awesome the new C-USA is, even better than what it was with the new horrible teams we've added.

Then other schools who aren't getting mentioned for expansion are butthurt (i.e. Marshall) and acting like jacka$$es on the main board.

This is a giant crossroads for a lot of schools... hopefully we are on the right path and not the path that includes FCS and Sunbelt garbage.

RE: Realignment Assignment
Well, Marshall might feel better about it since ODU, Charlotte and MTSU are more in their part of the country than UTEP or Tulsa......but Tulsa has some history in football and the fans aren't interested in playing teams that no one has heard of before......plus I don't think a 12-0 record, beating FIU, UTSA, Old Dominion and Charlotte is going to get us into a BCS Bowl or should I say a semi-finals bowl. Marshall or UTEP might have enough students and alumni to pretty well fill their stadiums no matter who they play but we can't. Personally, I think UNLV would draw better than Middle Tennessee State, just because the average fan has heard of them......albeit, it maybe from basketball.

RE: Realignment Assignment
The way realignment turned out with us in the Big East/AAC, I think it affords us the best opportunity for long term advancement.

1. We already know most of the teams we will be playing and are already competitive with them.

2. What's left of the BE has already been playing for a BCS bowl. Unlike CUSA

3. We are afforded an avenue to the respect that comes with half the schools location in the eastern time zone. Unlike the MWC

4. We don't have to take the plunge of costly travel (for the most part) for our spring sports. Unlike the MWC

5. We still have several "academic" brothers in our neck of the woods (SMU, Tulane in particular).

6. We do not have the dreaded mountain and Pacific time zones as a barrier to good television contracts. Unlike the MWC

7. Our womens basketball teams should be helped as a better known/respected product. Unlike CUSA

8. The AAC should be a muliple NCAA bid conference. Unlike CUSA

9. Multiple bowl ties with BCS AQ conferences. Unlike CUSA

10. A new sense of media respectability in the areas where we play and recruit.

11. A built-in backup system with the strongest and more traditional teams in CUSA in case we lose anyone from the AAC. That provides some sense of stability.

12. IMO this conference is both more stable and healthier wo the basketball only members because the remaining schools have similar needs and desires.

Win/win.

RE: Realignment Assignment
I think you covered things pretty well with the important part being recruiting....for both football and basketball. I don't think we would have continued to get the 3* players if we had stayed in CUSA in football and since I haven't put a lot of stock in 3* vs 4* other than where they decided to commit. I think we will be able to get some very good players in the future. In basketball, we definitely moved up a BIG notch......in just a couple of years, I think we will be able to go after about anybody we want and have a chance to get them.......that is if we are above average over those next two years. I think we are in a very good position for the future whether it's long term in the AAC or something new a few years from now. All we have to do is continue to have above average teams in both football and basketball.......and for football that means 8-4 or better!!!
