The football schools made numerous agreements with the basketball schools in order to gain the support of the basketball schools in the latest round of expansion. Remember, the basketball schools and ND did not have to allow UL, UC or USF into the BE. If the football schools had tried to leave without ND's support, it would have cost the football schools around $50 million in NCAA credits. Deals were made and everyone involved fully expects them to be kept. However, it would not surprise me if the BE added a football only member to balance out their schedules.
Actually the part about Notre Dame and the b-ball schools not having to allow UC, Louisville and South Florida in are false. If the b-ball schools had prevented them from allowing those schools in it would have shut down the football league literally. Then the b-ball schools would have been facing lawsuits out of their behinds that would have literally forced them to split sooner then they would have wanted to. Trust me, if the b-ball schools had told the football schools that they could add more football schools, thus destroying the Big East football league, the football schools would have left, financial ramfications or not. And the courts would have allowed it, or forced them to invite the football schools.
