If you're the Orange Bowl, who would you rather have:
a Big East school which doesn't travel well,
or an SEC / BigXII school that does travel.
Right now I'd be on the phone to the Orange Bowl. And I'd be bringing flowers. And candy.
If I'm the Orange bowl, right now I sign up the SEC #2 behind the champions bowl. You don't want a Big 12 school after the top 2 and SEC will be going 9 teams deep with quality teams. The Big 12 #2 behind the Rose would be great but they already have 3 bowls in Florida. If they'd be willing to give us there #2 great.

As the largest population concentration is on the east coast, especially north east, you have to have teams that represent. One of the reasons that NYC does not follow a particular team or two is because the schools in NYC stopped playing/never played Div I football.
Exactly, most the fans in the northeast and even parts of the mid-atlantic aren't that gung ho about football already so there wouldn't be as many people to "turn off".
There are more fans than you think and a much larger population concentration, As for gung ho, yeah, people in the north east realize there is more to life than college football, but it does not mean they are less of a fan. There happens to be much more to choose from than one local hometown game, maybe two if your lucky. With the population density, you don't need high ratings to garner may households.

It must be the Big Ten runner-up (which in some years would be Big Ten #3) now. The ACC tried playing nice with the SEC, but has to see its interests are more aligned with the BiG and the Pac, then the SEC and Big 12 now.
Next move after this might be some kind effort to keep teams not graduating their players out of the new playoff model similar to what is going on in basketball. Again, this will align the ACC more with BiG and the Pac then the SEC or the Big 12.
Cheers,
Neil

It does in terms of loss of scholarships but I hadn't heard about it costing (or even potentially costing) a school in terms of bowl appearances. Maybe all of the bowl eligible teams are above the 920?

This is great news for Notre Dame too.
1) I think Notre Dame will be able to join the ACC for all sports except football.
2)I would imagine that Notre Dame will gain bowl access through the ACC/B1G/PAC in some fashion.
3)I think the Irish will agree to play a set number of games against the PAC (2), B1G (3), and ACC (5) in exchange.
4) This will give Norte Dame everything they would need to stay independent in football
5)It allows the Irish to participate in Knight Foundation reforms.

That would be an absolutely horrible deal for the ACC, but it would pretty much be par for the course. The only sport Notre Dame has of value is football, so we'd add everything but football....plus give them access to our bowls when we don't have many worth a crap anyway.

It's time to move on. I hope we were on the phone with the SEC the moment the bowl news broke. If Bubba or Thorp aren't thinking along those lines and aren't planning to at least explore the possibility, it's a serious breach of a fiduciary duty to our school and they'd be completely eliminating us from major football competition for the future. The next call is to Virginia Tech and/or Duke to find a dance partner to go South with us. If we let NC State take that slot then they will forever have a recruiting advantage over us. The kids around here don't talk about the Big 10, they talk about going to the SEC to compete against the best in football. That's where we need to be. We have a great state to recruit and would for the first time be able to properly recruit it being in the country's best conference. We have to potential to be great - at the least, pretty good. Time to follow the money and up our efforts. We'll need both to compete at the highest level.

No doubt this is bad news for the ACC. Everyone should calm down a bit because, there is no way the networks would sign onto a playoff series without the entire east coast.
There are just too many people and too many dollars involved to alienate the east coast of the country.
I agree with many of the posters on there that the ACC conference management is probably not up to par with the SEC, B1G, Pac-12 or the Big XII but to think that the east coast would be excluded from the playoff is something the networks would not stand for. It is important for the networks to maximize revenues and they are not going to do anything to jepordize that.

RE: And the seperation begins
From everyone's rumors everywhere it is apparent that the majority of the southern ACC teams are desired by multiple conferences. How many rumors have involved UMD, UVA, VT, UNC, NCSU, Duke, GT, Clemson, FSU, and Miami? I think most of them will be fine (maybe not Wake) but it is a shame to break the rivalries up. I would love to see an ACC division in the B1G or SEC if leaving the ACC is a must.
The schools on the east coast are not going to get left behind. I think it is up to everyone to dictate the future here though. I don't see a future in the B12...I hope everyone can get together and move as a group to to the B1G or SEC and keep together natural rivals.

You acquire the components of the east coast market by cannibalizing the valuable assets of the ACC and BE. Let's face it, ND and PSU provide a good chunk of the NE. There are ways to cover this without having five leagues.
I'd say the lowest ratings for college football are in New England anyway. As an aside, what was the ACC thinking when they went for BC?
No, I don't think the TV execs care. The politicians might be a problem.

I call BS on all of this. Every reputable writer has said there has been no contact between the Big XII and potential targets. All we have some knee jerk speculation by some writers who lack context for the new playoff system. What we are left with is this cadre:
http://dudeofwv.blogspot.com/2012/05/big...dcast.html
Tell me: do these people sound like confidants of boosters, let alone university officials?
Also, aside from FSU's chief trial lawyer who was slapped quickly back into place with the hand of enlightenment, every President and Trustee has called BS.

Miami has pretty much declined any Big Texas invite.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-bu...canes.html
"Though a Yahoo story suggested the Big 12 – which has more a lucrative TV deal than the Atlantic Coast Conference – might pursue FSU and UM, two UM Board of Trustee members said it hasn’t been discussed inside UM and they could not envision Miami being interested. One pointed out UM would need to pay more than $15 million in ACC exit fees even if it wanted to move."
