Congratulations! Hopefully ECU will get rid of our bust of a head coach and return to respectability in baseball.

"Or the Roadrunners could try to lure away another top assistant at one of the Lone Star State powers, like Rice's Mike Taylor, Baylor's Steve Johnigan, Texas Christian's Randy Mazey, Texas A&M's Andy Sawyers, Texas' Skip Johnson or Tommy Harmon, or Texas Tech's Tim Tadlock if he doesn't get the head job in Lubbock."
Randy Mazey was the head coach at ECU from 2003-2005. He went 120-66-1 while he was here. We went to a regional all 3 years and made it to a super regional his second season. Heck of a hire IMO if you get him. Don't know a ton about the others there but anyone from Rice is bound to be decent after working with Wayne Graham.

Was this move based on performance or fear of not being good once you start CUSA play in baseball?
I mean CUSA is pretty legit as a baseball conference.

Thats what I was thinking, and this was his worst performance in Conference since he became the head coach. But we did beat the #1 team in the country, Baylor a few weeks ago.

RE: Head Baseball Coach Steps Down
I think he became complacent over the last few years. We did win a couple of southland tournaments under him, for what it's worth. I don't think the southland has much baseball to begin with, although the bobcats aren't bad. The move was probably due to our CUSA invitation. Knowing that CUSA is a baseball heavy hitter, Hickey had to make the decision. We have good talent in the team, just lacked that proper coaching. I'd say that besides our men's tennis and men's golf, baseball was our worst performing team. I'll give the softball girls a break since we just got a new coach and are rebuilding.

I think he was a great coach for where we were at in the Southland, but today it's a whole new ballgame. He was a great coach for the last decade+ but CUSA is the big time and it appears that all involved understand what is expected of us in our new situation.
