I've wanted the Herd in the Big East for almost as long as I can remember. At least as long as East Carolina has wanted in there, which has been quite a while.

This new CUSA-3.5/SB-2.0 make me want to, well, I'm not even sure anymore. If we're stuck in this league I could seriously stop caring about sports all together ... "I could seriously stop caring about sports".

Even though getting into the BE now will essentially be getting back to our CUSA 2.0, that's fine with me. It's where we need to be. I want to be with our rivals and our brethren. I'd even take a FB only invite just to get a foot in the door. Hell, I'd get on my knees in front of Aresco and ... wait a minute, that might be a bit much. But I'd at least get a hold of lmckay92 and have him bring a Carrot over for Aresco to COGS... wait, probably too far again. Well, damnit, I'd do almost anything to get back with our friends and rivals is what I'm trying to say.

I do not have any desire to be in this new CUSA 3.5 or whatever version we are on now. The only add that has any future potential is honestly Old Dominion. I could almost live with that. Sorry Charlotte fans, you're not there yet in my eyes.

I just want to see Marshall and Southern Miss get a Big East invite to get back to our rivals. This crap just makes me sick.

I'm with you and we haven't even taken a snap. This just flat out sucks. We should have gone to the A10 and stuck in the CAA for football. No point in going to the FBS to be amid a flaming pile of garbage. I honestly believe we could finist in the top 2 in this CUSA East RIGHT NOW without even adding the schollies. First ECU leaves and now USM moves West and thus we will never play them and we are stuck with basically a startup and a bunch of Sunbelt retreads and third rail Florida schools. I am sure next we will add Florida A&T so we can move UAB to the West and basketball will be equally as crappy.

Obviously, I have no cat in this fight. But how can a team who started their football in 2009 try and act all high and mighty about "startups"? Sure you have been very lucky with the number of wins since 2009, but I find it funny that you are the third youngest football team in CUSA. UTSA has "beat" you to the FBS level. UNCC is the only university who hasn't played a down yet.

Thank you PG.. I really wanted to say something about "ego".. but I bit my tongue... for an ODUr fan to start trying to smack the other schools around for "being a Belt" level team.. that's pretty bad.

:iagree:

Most of those Belt level schools would pound the crap out of them...They have no idea how big of a jump it is going to be in football competition.

I think that is the map of college football except for the Big 5.

Regardless of any perceived hypocracy you see, it doesn't change the fact this league has taken a direction for the worst, particularly for the eastern half. And while in football, all we have is our unprecedented early success, we can talk hoops as well.

Just hang in there. When the Big East folds up shop (at least as a football conference) a new conference will be formed. You can call it Conference Duex-SA. There is almost no chance the Big East revenues are going to be high enough to entice Boise to stay considering the Big East is going to receive a much reduced share of BCS revenues in the new playoff deal. They're obviously not going to get nearly enough to keep the TV numbers palatable (at least for western-based schools). My TV contacts say the Big East is down to a hail mary to make the TV numbers work. That's two revenue hits. Incentive is all but lost to want to put up with the hassle of splitting sports between conferences and having football play 90 percent of its games in a place Boise fans won't travel to.

The basketball schools are eventually going to get tired of expanding with old C-USA football playing schools. If the Big East hoops schools can figure out a way to legally split, keep the NCAA tourney credits and rid themselves of the football schools they will. Their best chance of pulling this off is at the end of the 2013-14 academic year when schools are leaving but the new ones haven't started yet. Lawyers at several Big East non-football schools are already trying to map this out. If realignment gives you heartburn you might want to turn away (for about three or four more years).

Suure.....lets not worry about the hypocrisy. Nine times out of 10 the replacement team is worst than the original member. I mean reallly, please tell me that is an easy concept. I mean look, we had a bunch of teams that played football longer than Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been on the air. But once they left, a team who hasn't even played a down of FBS was added. Geeeeze......what a direction for the worst

I gotta say to my new conference mates, I feel bad for Marshall, UAB, USM, Tulsa, Rice, and UTEP. It feels bad feeling like everybody forgot who you are. While I'll be disappointed if y'all leave, I understand 110% and wish you the best of luck in finding the right fit for you.
That being said, I've always respected your programs, and really really reallyyyy want to visit if my Owls come into town.

Unprecedented early success??? I am sorry but FCS does not count, when it happens playing a CUSA schedule along with some money grab OOC games then we can talk. I am not saying you guys will tank completely...I actually think you guys will progress pretty quickly but the 1st few years may be a little ugly while you upgrade your talent, depth, and size. Also many of these "Belt" teams you are bad mouthing had a lot of success themselves in the FCS level.

You guys are actually pretty damn lucky to be walking straight into CUSA with teams like Tulsa, USM, and Marshall...All of whom have paid many dues and have had a lot of success in major college football. If you want to see a bad ass football program do a little research on the USM of the early and mid-90's...They were as good as most any team in college football except your blue blood elites. If you want to see a dominant team destroying their conference year in and year out take a look at those Marshall teams in the MAC, they could hang with just about anyone in the country. And if you want to see a model of success in CUSA since the last realignment look no further than Tulsa.

RE: New CUSA Map
ODU fans just don't have the depth of experience to understand. Let me help since Marshall was a 1-AA team up till 1996:

1991 - we played in the 1-AA championship game
1992 - we won the 1-AA national championship
1993 - we played in the 1-AA championship game
1994 - we lost in the 1-AA semi finals (to Boise St. in Boise 28-24)
1995 - we played in the 1-AA championship game
1996 - we won the 1-AA national championship (15-0, labeled the greatest 1-AA team of all time)

So our 6 years heading in to 1-A, FBS, we played in the national championship game 5 times, winning 2, and made the semis the other year. We rolled in to FBS having a Heisman finalist at WR (Randy Moss) and a Heisman finalist at QB (Chad Pennington). As a matter of fact, we had a Heisman finalist on the roster for our first 6 years at the FBS level. With that we had great success out of the gate.

Now, go back and check history. There are only two teams that have come out of 1-AA, FCS, and really been good out of the gate - Marshall and Boise State, and it still took Boise 3 years to get their feet under them.

So, with all that said, I have respect for what your program has done in its very short history, but while you have won a lot of games you are not exactly dominant at the FCS level and you don't have nearly the talent level you think you have compared to even lower level FBS teams with 85 scholarship players. If I'm not mistaken, you haven't played a single FBS school since you started your program back up. You really have no idea the difference in depth makes.

Consider this a going away present.
That's a good map. Now I feel like CinderFella without the slipper. Thanks.
Looks like NMSU and WKU need to be added as well.
A Kentucly team, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia team
WKU, Arkansas State, GSU, Charleston

Agree a Arkansas team would fill that ugly hole. Georgia and S. Carolina need a team too but who..At least Arkansas as a viable team in Ark st..maybe Ga southern

Ouch

UConn was also good immediately. We are also coming in with a Heisman-type QB, who is only a sophomore. Not saying we will be as good as Marshall was, but we will be a case study on how to do it, like Marshall, Boise, and UConn. The depth is nice, but keep in mind we will have the 85 players and we are having no problems winning FBS recruiting wars. We have an untapped market, fan support, and money, so much money that we don't have to travel to Alabama and have half of our team injured for a check. We haven't played any FBS teams because we don't need to. I fully expect to be competitive against ECU, UNC, and Maryland next year (note I am not saying we will win). You don't have to worry about us being a poor football team.

Steel, do you use photoshop? Use a top layer to create the state outline, then put the logo under? These are fantastic.

Paint Shop Pro 7 actually. I've been resisting transitioning to Photoshop proper for the better part of a decade, but that's essentially what I do.
