His stats are great but if he was so valuable he should have gotten them more wins. This award should have went to a player that is a least participating in a bowl. Sad day for C-USA

With our defense, if we hadn't had Cato we wouldn't have won a game. So you can look at it that way. 03-wink

Without your your defense, Cato's numbers would have been lower due to less field time.

How do you see that. If our D- was better, we would have got off the field a lot sooner. Most of the scoring drives on us were 10 plays or longer. If we could get off the field in 3-7 plays with no score then Cato and the O- have more time at least 2 maybe 3 more posissions per game. If our D- gets straightened out I think Cato can get 5,000-5,200 yards next season.

Pretty simple, when you are down and losing as much as Marshall did this past season you pass to try and get back in the game. When you have a lead you run to keep TOP.

Marshall's offense was impressive this year, there is no other way to describe it. Cato was a big reason why. Marshall's defense was pretty bad and they lost games. How does Cato have anything at all to do with the defense?

There are awards for being a good player on a good team, it's called a bowl game. If there was a player that was obviously better than Cato on a good team he should win. I can't think of such a player. The linebacker for UAB was pretty impressive but he probably got snubbed from more recognition BECAUSE he was on a team with a bad record. Individual awards are just that, individual. Tulsa was the best team in C-USA and they won the award for the best team, the Conference Championship.

Agreed, the award is for the best player not the most valuable player (MVP). If it was an MVP award, then you'd have to consider his team's record and he likely wouldn't win it.

Just a really weird year in C-USA. Too much turnover/graduation all around. Cato just needs a little more help and Marshall could be very good.

Did you want to put him ahead of Steward?

Tackles
Burdette: 157 (#2)
Steward: 128 (#9)

Solo Tackles
Burdette: 90 (#1)
Steward: 57 (#76)

He definitely made a lot of tackles. Other stats?

Tackles for loss
Burdette: 13 (#57)
Steward: 19 (#9)

Sacks
Burdette: 2 (not in the top 109 players)
Steward: 11 (#14)

Interceptions
Burdette: 1 (not in the top 130 players)
Steward: 3 (#71)

Forced fumbles
Burdette: 2 (not in the top 120 players)
Steward: 5 (#4)

Fumbles recovered (to show I'm not cherry picking stats)
Burdette: 2 (#73)
Steward: 1 (Not ranked)

Passes Defended
Burdette: 2
Steward: 6
Neither qualified for ranking. Minimum was 10

That's all 8 of the major defensive categories listed on the NCAA site. Burdette was ranked in 4 of them. He was top 20 in 2 of them.
Steward was ranked in 6 of them and was top 20 in 4 of them.

So do you think Burdette should be ahead of Steward or who do you think he should be ahead of?

You're assuming too much. Much of Marshall's passing is short, high percentage passes that don't/wouldn't change whether we had the lead or not.

Awards should go to team and team members who help team win a championship. Cato had a very good season but he led his team to a below 500, non-bowl season. Tulsa, UCF, ECU (all 7-1) had certain individual player who help win cusa divisional championship.
One of their players desire player of year......

What, what, and what?

First of all, unless there is a third division I am not aware of, ECU didn't win a division. Secondly Cato lead his offense to be the #8 scoring offense in the nation (#1 in C-USA), #6 in the nation in total offense (#1 in C-USA), #1 in the nation in passing offense, and #27 in the nation in passing efficiency (#1 in C-USA). How did he lead the team to being less than .500? If he is on any team in C-USA with a defense they likely go undefeated.

Alot of butthurt people in here......Marshall finally gets recognition for somethin and people complain. Name one player this year who was better statistically at their given position in our conference or even nationally. It's an individual award, not a team award.
