I think Harper just exceeded even Nats fans' expectations in the Home Run Derby. He was the runner-up to Yoenis Cespedes and had 24 HRs overall.

Haven't heard if the game is still on, personally they should play unless there is still a safety issue. Prayers to those involved. Sad. I was up there Friday to watch the Nats play the Phillies.

Hoping for a Nats sweep of the Braves. Would really go a long ways into winning a wild card spot.

I am impressed with Roark as a starting pitcher.

Nats win 4-0 over the Braves. Nice win. Need to keep winning even though it will be tough.

Nats took a loss to the Braves, so it puts them in a deeper hole. I don't think they make it, but the ride is fun and if they do not make it to the playoffs this year, I like where the team is finally heading.

Zimmerman was very impressive tonight. Allowed just 1 walk and 2 hits. Pitched all 9 innings.

Nats had a good run. Proud of them, they never gave up.

If Ron Washington gets fired as the Texas manager, would the Nats hire him?

Lots of crack and cocaine in the DC area to entice him....

Joking aside, I believe they are determined to get Cal Ripken Jr....and apparently Cal hates Angelos enough to say yes and give a middle finger to the Orioles.

Not sure about Cal. Could be a good career move for him of course. But the players are hoping for Randy Knorr and now Dusty Baker is available. Not sure who would be right, but maybe Dusty Baker is right for the job.

RE: OT:Washington Nationals
Dusty Baker constantly blunders lineups late in the game. His teams win in spite of him not because of him.

In the grand scheme of things, manager is probably somewhat unimportant (especially if the NL goes to the DH soon), but it would be nice to have a guy who brings dedication and patience to the squad. The current team is definitely a talented and entertaining group, but they can be goof offs from time to time too.

Nats add pitcher Doug Fister and trade off Lombardozzi,Ian Krol, and Robbie Ray.

This is a complete steal for the Nats, IMO. Fister is no ace, but he's a solid starter and the Nats gave up nothing they really need. I guess the downside is that he's a free agent after 2 seasons, but the nats are obviously looking to win NOW, so this trade works out really well for them.

What are some other areas that the Nats improve on?

If you saw the nats record in games that dan haren started, it was awful and easily the difference in the standings with the braves. The top problem last season was starter #4.

I'm more inclined to blame the offense that was in the bottom five in pretty much all major categories for the first half of the season. Haren actually came around and had a few great outings in the second half of the season. The offense needs to be consistent...not great necessarily, but consistently average at minimum. The starting rotation will do the rest.
