The Big 12 will blow up soon. (My Prediction)
With the Big 12 having so many problems over the past few years. Losing 4 flagship programs in the heart of their footprint, the Longhorn Network, adding West Virginia who's on an island, and passing on Louisville who could have helped with the West Virginia "Island" situation, I see major turmoil in the Big 12. Not to mention the awful year the league is having right now....I see the Big 12 blowing up in the near future and a new league developing with some of the Big 12 schools forming up with some of the better MWC and AAC schools. I can see the Texas and Oklahoma schools leaving and joining up with a few western schools from the MWC, or I can see them joining up with a few eastern schools from the AAC. What say you guys? Another note, I don't believe the GOR applies to a conference that ceases to exist. In other words, what I'm saying is that the Big 12 goes the way of the SWC and ends instead of back filling with other schools.

Can we get the B12 refs if conference blows?

no P5 conference will ever "blow up." They'll just fill up with whoever the best AAC or MWC teams are. There is too much money in TV and bowl game contracts tied to the conferences themselves.

The league will not 'blow up'. the identity of it may change, but there will be no blowing up.

Just what I was getting ready to post. The P5 are set, as conferences, under this new system.

Texas (and OU) staying or leaving is the key.

RE: The Big 12 will blow up soon. (My Prediction)
I doubt the Big 12 would disappear even if (and it is a BIG if) Texas and Oklahoma left. It may look radically different, but I think it would still end up being the #5 strongest conference because teams flow uphill in today's college athletic hierarchy. In the latest round of conference shuffling, it was the lowest conference (the WAC) which ceased to exist because all of the other teams percolated up. If there is another major reshuffle, the remaining Big 12 will add teams from the MWC and American. The MWC will then fill in their empty spots with teams from C-USA West. The American will fill in with teams from C-USA East. C-USA will restock from the Sun Belt. It is possible the only conference which would cease to exist in that scenario is the Sun Belt.

This doesn't make a lick of sense. If they wanted to do that, why not just add those teams now? Truth be told, if you put all 10 Big 12 teams out on the open market, and they and every G5 team were up for grabs for the other conferences to have, all ten Big 12 teams would be among the first 11 picks.

If you said Oklahoma and Texas left and went to another P5 conference, and then the rest happened... okay, I can see where you are coming from. It could happen. But the way you described it? It just makes no sense.

I agree that the BigXII is the "dead conference walking" and I also think this is why they're so oppose to expansion. It's not about money or per school pay out, it's about the fact that it's easier to disband a 10 team league vs. a 14 team league. I've shared my views ad nauseum as to why I think the BigXII's going to go the way of the DoDo and how it would be good for all parties involved.

1- It IS about payout and scheduling. Take off the tin foil hat.

2- Disbanding isn't much easier, ONE vote is all that would change. 8 vs 9. It's pretty hard to do already.

I don't see it happening anytime soon. If the B12 were to start to disintegrate it would have to start with Texas and Oklahoma. 6-8 of the schools would have no problem finding homes. Some of them may be 2nd choices but they would still find homes. Iowa State, K-State and 1 or 2 of the Texas schools might be relagted to the MWC or AAC.

RE: The Big 12 will blow up soon. (My Prediction)
My prediction is it will be a p5 conference until 1) the grant of rights end and 2) pac12 expands. Once that happens it will be a war between the other 4 conferences to add the best team they can from the big 12. I doubt whatever is left there could keep the conference going and will join the American or mw.

Interesting to note that the big 12 and CFp tv contract ends the same year in 2025. Could we see the d4 come to life with 4 conferences of 16 teams competing for whatever championship they make up next? Possibly

I bet they ignore this, since it isn't what anyone around here wants to hear. They already proven that over and over... 07-coffee3

Since we're engaging in fantasies, Virginia, North Carolina, Duke and Georgia Tech go to the B1G to make 18. Then Florida State, Miami, Clemson, NC State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and Boston College go the Big 12 to make 18. Or, maybe, NC State and VT go to the SEC and the SEC and Big 12 both are at 16. Syracuse and goes to the AAC. Notre Dame, as usual, will do whatever it wants.

I don't believe it will blow up unless the Texoma 4 comes to fruition. To avoid that, the Big-12 needs to expand or die. This 10 team, 5 state footprint is long term not viable...especially when your golden eggs (Texas and Oklahoma) are not in the discussion.

RE: The Big 12 will blow up soon. (My Prediction)
The only way this happens is to somehow get a massive collaboration between the other P5 conferences to completely divvy up the 10 teams because otherwise their will be law suits galore.

Problem there is that not everybody will find a home because there are plenty of teams in that league that no P5 conference wants unless they are guaranteed UT and or OU first....and even then, some of them are still SOL

So IMHO, the cell doors on the B12 stay locked until the GOR runs out...but once it does, get ready because thats when the escapees make their move.
