Really? You had lost 34-7 to UNT the previous game. You guys weren't exactly rolling from when we played you. I think it had more to do with getting an over hyped bad D.
Well, to MT's credit, they were pretty evenly matched in two of those three games.
I assume you are referring to our game with them. We outgained them by almost 200 yards and won pretty comfortably. It may have only been a TD but never felt as if they were out playing us or were going to win. I don't think we ever even trailed. MTSU not only beat Marshall but they outgained Marshall by almost 150 yards too. UNT just had their way with them. UNT is actually starting to get on my radar. They've been more impressive than Marshall for sure.

One thing for you guys need to understand about MT vs UNT games, is that lately we always blow each other out and it rarely has anything to do with the quality of the rest of our season. Write it off as an anomaly and keep on keeping on. Some years we smoke them and some years they smoke us.

Remember: RB Cooper did not play 3/4+ of the game against MTSU.......he will run wild on Marshall!

your argument that the victory over unc is great because unc almost beat miami just took a shot in the a$$. miami just barely beat wake.
unc absolutely sucks. nc state is getting molested by an admittedly fantastic fl st team right now.
if you honestly think that being the best team in NC is going to get you anything -- certainly anything more than winning the conference would -- then you're off your trolley. no one really gives a sh^t who the best team in NC is. personally, I think you're wasting two OoC slots on those two teams every year.

this sectionalist mindset is a cancer. you need to beat "national powers". there is no rational argument for beating mediocre schools simply because they happen to reside within your state borders .

Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and West Virginia aren't national powers? All 3 are either border states or a state's leap away.

Yeah they aint Miss State or Ole Miss . USC is probably just as close to ECU as they are too their Miss schools. NC is a legit state top 10 populated state that produces top 8-10 football talent with 7 FBS programs, and 4 BCS programs. It's also one of only 4 state that have had at least 3 schools average 50k+ in a season. The others were Cal, Texas, and Florida. There is a lot more legit football being played in this state than people give it credit for and that actually show up than the crap in Mississippi. Even App State in the FCS can outdraw USM and ECU, UNC, and NC State can all draw about like those Miss, SEC powers or within a few thousand.

you're sorta making my point for me. OoC scheduling is something of a zero sum game. if you insist on playing NCSt and UNC, there literally isn't room for more than one (if that) of the SCs, WVUs, and and VTs of the world -- and you are infinitely better off playing and beating them than those snooty and dysfunctional baby blue busybodies.
don't take me wrong, this is all a compliment. I think ecu has outgrown unc and ncst. if you set your goal to be the best team in NC, you're just diminishing yourself.

I usually don't read your stuff, but that's just nonsense. I know you're incapable of thinking anything through without creating some sort of ridiculous (and wrong headed) relativistic framework upon which you stroke your little dork and declare yourself to be sooooo superior to something or someone or other, but even if it wasn't retarded to attempt to rank the quality of football within a state by population (FFS), there is a MASSIVE difference between the populations of CA and NC. that's just irrational.
but it wasn't even my point, bonehead.

Marshall is the same Marshall from 2005 on. All the talent in the world won't won't make up for poor coaching. With Pruett or Donnan we'd probably be undefeated, and I doubt many of the games would even be close.

I hear what you're saying. Thank you for the compliment and I agree. Wins against USC/VT/WVU make a statement. UNC and NC state? Not so much. It's really just for the fans...they love playing UNC. If we continue to go 1 and 5 against them every six years I wouldn't want to keep playing them. If we can consistently beat them and be able to focus on the power team I don't mind playing them.
If we can get H&H's with national power programs I'd really like that. Makes for positive TV and recruiting. Unfortunately we probably won't aside from one or two schools who are a bit less picky about traveling for an OOC game.
