This is so unbelievably inane it's hard to comment more. The petty tyranny of this gov't is an embarassment, and a blatant insult to the founding fathers.

Some people want the heat off the bulbs. Some actually heated things with them.
For example the Cook and Bake ovens.

Again, slinging insults without any valid comeback or contribution.

The energy cost savings are negated by the fact that they do not last as long as advertized. The guarantee is worthless, just try and make good on that. Its impossible.

They don't even last as long as the old ones... at least in my house that was wired in 1940. I just look at this as another ~$50 per year federal tax. Or I'l just use the 75w regardless of what the fixture says is the max.

Nevermind

In 2012, all 100-watt bulbs were phased out, and 75-watt bulbs disappeared the following year.

Yes. A law signed and championed by by George W as an "energy policy" is socialist, communist, and completely the Democrats' fault.

Did I say that?

Leave it up to a democrat to embellish the details.

Alright, everyone together now, let's hear it for dim bulbs! 04-clap2

In other news, nearly every adult in the country carries around smart phones that consume as much electricity as a refrigerator. They can use that to see at night...

I'm switching over to LEDs anyway. The Cree bulbs look like regular bulbs, have the same color as light from an incandescent, use a fraction of the electricity, and last forever.

CFLs were/are a pretty ****** technology.

LEDs are awesome. Unfortunately the prices are insane.

I spent $250 a few weeks ago on LED bulbs and I'm not even half way done.

Yep, which is why I haven't purchased any yet.

You can't beat $1.50 for 6 x 60w bulbs, which is what I paid at the Dollar General yesterday. I'm going to have to stock up.

I went to cfls several years ago and have no complaints. They last a lot longer than incandescents.

Incandescents in the winter time as they provide some localized heat and cfls in the summertime as they don't make the AC work harder.

CFLs work best in areas where they aren't frequently turned on an off. That'll make them die faster. They're best suited for areas where you will have the lights on for extended periods of time.

I plan to fully switch to LEDs in a year or two. It'll probably cost me in the neighborhood of $300 to do so though, but at least I won't have to buy new bulbs again....maybe ever.

Texas was smart, they passed a law that still allowed the manufacture, import, and use of whatever the f**k kind of light bulb you wanted.

Anyway, here in Nevada I'm hosed. I don't have very many regular light bulbs in my house except for lamps. Most of my bulbs are the recessed spot light kind and they're already expensive.

BTW, if anyone takes a look at the Vegas Strip they'd have a hard time busting my balls for a few light bulbs. The Luxor pays 5,000 per night to have that thing on top of their hotel.
