I don't wish to pry into their private lives, so I am unsure of their actual religous beliefs.

But that leaves me puzzled on how to respond to their greeting. Do I say "Merry Christmas" in return?

What's appropriate?

Report them to the DHS. They're obviously terrorists.

Since it is a recognized federal holiday and they're getting a paid day off then I say go for it. But then again, you can just say 'right back at ya'

When offered a "Happy Holidays" or some such I respond with a "Merry Christmas".

If I'm doing the initial offering it's always "Merry Christmas".

If one is offended when they are wished well, then I think it is the offended ones problem.

So Merry Christmas to all and peace to men of good will!

Happy Festivus! Kwazy Kwanzaa! May the Force be With You!
R'amen! :)

And Merry Christmas

Right back at ya dude!

RE: Question on politeness
I used to worry about whether to say "Merry Christmas" until I had a Jewish customer come up to me and say, "Merry Christmas" one year. I then realized worrying about what to say was just plain stupid.

I say Merry Christmas a lot. Makes me feel subversive. Especially fun to say it in here in Diversityville, MN.

RE: Question on politeness
If someone offers a "merry Christmas", "happy Hanukkah", "happy holidays", "happy Kwanzaa", "merry Yule", or any other holiday greeting, I just accept it in the kind spirit offered and say, "Thank you. You too."
