Proactive vs sedentary... kind of my whole point.

It takes a complete lack perspective to not understand the necessity behind ODU's actions to this point.

App isn't exactly the same as ODU. There are not many plots of land in the mountains that can accommodate a football stadium or a track facility.

Proactive for ODU is building a new stadium. Proactive for App would have been leveling a mountain.

Or just remove the track. Why can't the current site be expanded/renovated?

Oh sure it is.....lets see here -

App lost to Furman, who lost to Gardner Webb who Charlotte beat.
App lost to CSU, who lost to Gardner Webb, who Charlotte beat.
App lost at home to NC A&T, who was pummeled AT HOME by NCCU by even MORE than NCCU beat Charlotte.

Sure......no way 2 teams that beat us could stay on the field with mighty App. 04-chairshot

You have to use the transitive property with correct data, your argument's are inherently flawed.

NCCU beat you at your house 40-13, and then lost 28-0 to the NC A&T team that we lost to by 3.

Using your logic however, we beat Ga Southern 38-14, that same Ga Southern team beat Florida three games later 26-20. Well, I guess App is better than Florida by 3-4 TDs then.....

The point is (and clearly made to any reasonable person) the 2 teams were not soooo different last season in terms of quality despite your earlier condescending comment that insinuated that it would be beyond the realm of possibility that App could have lost to UNCP or Wesley. Clearly, if we did---App may well have also.

Come on man, the teams were soooo different last year. Not an insult to Charlotte (you guys fielded a pretty good team for your first year) or bragging about App (we had a train wreck of a season). Still, those teams were not close.

As happy as I am to be leaving for FBS, you are doing a disservice to the Southern Conference and the FCS to suggest that we would be in danger of losing to DII and DIII teams. Again, no offense to Charlotte; you were playing with a thin team of freshman. But being a middle of the pack SoCon team with 8 losses (5 to teams that finished in the FCS top 25 and 1 to Georgia) is still way above getting killed by a DII team and losing to a DIII.

Good post. It's all about matchups and with us starting 16 freshmen we didn't matchup well with the more experienced teams, no matter the division. App experienced growing pains with their new coach and thats to be expected.

The western part of North Carolina needed a rivalry to be excited about and this should be it. I doubt Wake will want to face either of us on a regular basis.

I think they are more than willing to renovate the football stadium to remove the track. They just don't have a new place to put the track. An App fan can correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh. I didn't realize their track team used it. Still sucks for football. That was truly my point.

I think App now owns an old local HS building (or maybe is trying to buy it?).

It has a track, so they'll eventually be able to use that area for track and field events. Their track will be gone eventually, but for now it is a necessity.

On the plus side, their track and field athletes get to play in one of the nicest track and field venues in the country.

I'm sure state laws play a role in that. ECU couldn't connect the expansion so we got with in 8 inches but if it touched they'd have to pay another few million or whatever. It's regulated. My family has a place in Boone. It cost 4k to put a 10 foot by 10 foot deck onto the side of mountain. Something I could have probably built with my friends in a day in greenville. It's not as easy as throwing something in the back yard in Greenville I expect since you got to hit bedrock with your support post. Something as simple as that when you are building is most of the cost.

RE: Charlotte and App State to play in 18-19
In the recent athletics plan, the first item on the list is to remove the track and give track and field it's own, specific facilities. A separate field hockey facility was already put in place. As many have said, it's a bit more difficult to find expansion space in Boone.

Also, despite what you may think, our program is far from "dying". We had an awful year, no doubt. But with a new head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and quarterback, there were bound to be some growing pains. We were a completely different team by the end of the season, and have a bunch of momentum going forward.

And those attendance numbers are all accurate. The pictures you see from the Western game are due to it being 31-6 at halftime and a windchill of 15 degrees. I stayed until the end though 02-13-banana

The old HS is still on the market, the University had expressed interest in the property before budgets got very tight, and are still expressing interest, but the county (who owns the 75 acre property) seem to want to regulate the use of it to the letter. The track has been a issue with expansion of KBS since as has been previously discussed there is little area to expand the stadium. You have to build down or up, however due to the geological content building down can only go so far. Boise State still has a track around their stadium and seemed to have been able to work around it.

Boise State just distracts everybody with that ugly blue turf so they don't notice the track. Maybe you guys could put some yellow turf in?

You guys have the foundations of nice stadium though. I'd hate to see you turn it into something as ugly as Boise State's stadium. You have to do what you have to do if you ultimately can't find another spot for the track though.

Ultimately I don't think it is really a big deal outside of you'll always have people making fun of it. I don't think it really impacts App's future performance in any way.

I hope both schools expand their stadiums, they're going to need it for this game. So done needs to get the specifics on this deal, is there a minimum numbers of tickets to the visitors?
