Right now the most important thing is to figure out how to remove the 0-12 and 1-11 from peoples minds. When you go 1-23 no one, well no one other than S.Miss remembers or even thinks about 2011.

It's all good to want but you still need to be...

WANTED

As of today and most likely YEARS to come the only one wanting S. Miss is C-USA and the SBC. Couple more years of 1-23 and the SBC probably wouldn't want you....

C-USA has no choice

Man, this is just like Groundhog Day. 10 years ago, the newbs' of the Sun Belt we hearing the same thing (it was one reason La Tech, NMSU, Idaho, et. al. all went to the WAC).

Perhaps, just perhaps, your perception of yourself in this world is being supported artificially; I know we say the same things about a lot of P5 schools.

You made my original and only point Gold. (we should not be dumping on CUSA) Nobody said we wouldn't improve our situation IF we could. I never said otherwise. There's a thread on BGN today discussing this. The majority are saying what I'm saying. We are here and we need to make the best of it because we may be here a long time. There's no gap in G5 conferences that can't be closed and these new teams have the potential to be as good as any G5 teams out there.

I know exactly what Chuck said about our conference situation and I promise you he would NEVER say the crap that's being said on this board.

I jumped into this because I come on every few days and see a few guys making our new compadres think USM fans are the biggest pricks in college football. We are not, we're some of the best and most hospitable fans(along with Marshall) you can find and what's being said on this board does not reflect that.

And to repeat the last thing in your post that is the most important thing in this thread. We are in CUSA because it is what's best for our program. So why act we are better than all of the teams that finished ahead of us last year.

I can't fathom why we have a few guys who insist on giving the rest of us a bad name. The majority of USM supporters, particularly the ones who support our program financially realize that we should send a big thank you note to the newbies for saving our collective asses with our TV contract. We also feel that in a few years CUSA will be as good as it ever was and the ones that left went to the exact same conference they were in.

Please stop branding USM fans by the posts of a few guys on this board, one of whom's life mission seems to be to hate any and everything related To La Tech.

Dude I've given thousands to financially support my university. I keep posting on this board because I don't want USM fans to settle for less nor do I want them to lower expectations. For the few on this board who are happy with the status quo there are thousands who are opposed to our status (no not on this board). I am just the vocal one about it. The fact is USM was THE THURSDAY night game and was a premiere game to watch a few years ago and I am not going to lower my expectations to this CUSA 3.0. Yeah football is down but it will in time rebound. Even now I am spending another $1,000 for season tickets. I'll have my say.

RE: Another Strike Against the Bahamas Bowl
Believe it or not I used to support this conference a lot. In fact I have three polo shirts with the CUSA logo on it. Then one day while wearing it I overheard a guy at the mall say to someone, "Man are you serious?? That is a joke." You had to be there to understand that he was talking about me supporting this conference. For most of you, you don't realize how hard it is to be in SEC country. They think we and the conference is a total joke.

So, I will try and calm down and say in sorry if I am being too vocal. No I will never enjoy this conference but I get upset when people bring stuff up about it on threads. The bottom line is that this is a stepping stone conference. We will talk pride and unity right now but wait till you get a call and boom you are out like lightning. It's hard for some of you to perhaps see this but after over a decade of watching it is frustrating.

USM beat both swept nationally ranked Alabama and Ole Miss in baseball but we will lose to Tulane. Why? Because our sports teams don't care about playing hard against other CUSA schools. Truly, I mean no disrespect but that is the truth.

Believe it or not I am a classy guy. So in keeping an open mind please give me some pros as to why I should be optimistic about this conference. I will be open minded.

I personally think you are anything but "classy"...

to start weak comes to mind. Wow you let some stupid person you didn't know or even if you did know them, change the way you thought. Yep, weak. So you over heard someone say "Man are you serious?? That is a joke." Sounds more like they were talking to you instead of you "over hearing them". But if you honestly over heard them...maybe they were talking about S. Miss being 1-23. Just as likely,,,right?

Let me throw this out at up...

maybe you beat nationally ranked Alabama and Ole Miss in baseball because they ...over looked S. Miss because they don't get up for schools like S. Miss?

If S. Miss is having problems with your sports programs....

look in the freaking mirror because it's on your program and not any other school in the conference. Not one other school playing in CUSA played a part in S. Miss going 1-23...

other than beating your butts.

Maybe I will come off like a ass but here goes...

NO ONE, repeat, NO OTHER CONFERENCE, again, no other conference other than the SBC wants you. So go feel sorry for yourself somewhere else...we're not playing along.

Weak Ass!

Wow that's pitiful to say you over heard someone talking and you let it affect you. Get over yourself and like I said if the teams that left this conference wanted S.Miss or thought S. Miss actually brought something to the table...

you would be in another conference. You're not so what does that tell you...classy guy?

I apologize to any S. Miss fan that isn't on here whining everytime they post for down grading your program. But there is no way to separate the fans that see it for what it is and the cry babies...

If anything, the USM fans who post here are more optimistic and pro-CUSA than USM fans in general. We're on the same side here, in my mind at least, but in all honesty your sunshine-pumping rhetoric would inspire nothing but derision if posted on one of the dedicated USM boards.

I will grant you this: most of us are far too nice to share our real, unfiltered opinions with the noobs. I am different in that sense.

They showed us tremendous respect by joining us and we should return the favor.
You and I definitely have different opinions on this and I certianly respect your right to lay yours on the table like me. Time will tell but we will be long gone by then. Don't know who you rely on but it must be a group that tail gates elsewhere from our location which is in the $1500 and higher spots (football) along with those in the suites and club seats. Take a poll of those and you will find they have been ready to go a long time. No disrespect but Houston, SMU, ECU, UCF, Tulsa, etc have a much brighter ring than FIU, FAU, La Tech, ODU, etal.
Think about what you just said. "Ready to go for a long time" That means they were ready to go when we were with Houston,SMU,ECU,Tulsa etc. So why disrepect these guys when you didn't disrespect them.

If you want to campare donations we can do that. My name is Pat McCool and you can find me listed as Patrick and Gwendalyn McCool. Start in the honor club book where you will see us listed as Associates for Excellence which means we dropped $10'000 to fund scholarships. For the Eagle Club started in 92 with a $1'000 a year and 8 tickets on the 45 and then moved up to $1'500 around the year 2000. Didn't make any the last 2 because I had to invest all my cash to move to New York for a TV show I'm working on. Just got word 2 weeks ago that my investment has paid off and a check is on the way for this year. All this is listed on websites and in media guides and if you give 1'500 a year you get a copy.

Now list your name and your contributions. I'll check back every few hours, who knows we might know each other
I am unable to give you my name in view of the venom directed at me personally by many of the La Tech fans. You wouldn't believe what they send me privately. However, I have your name now and will make every effort to look you up at USM events at which time you will recognize me and will be aware that I too am a heavy contributor although not quiet at your level. Wish we had more like you, in meantime good luck.

Comic I didn't make your point for you, I simply agreed with you. Good grief. Anyone who judges an entire fanbase off a couple of posters on a internet board doesn't have 2 cents worth of common sense.

As for the point you "didn't" make...BigGoldNation? Seriously? The 367 members there represent less than 2% of our fanbase. The opinions expressed there is far less than 2% when you consider thete is only about 50 members who post regularly. And its a pretty funny place. During the first raid several posters quoted inside sources that we had been invited too. The board was completely beside themselves. Weeks later they were ripping the teams that left.

We are here because it's the best available option. As the WKU fan said no one else wants us. Should the chance to better ourselves ever come along we will take it. Which is no different than what every CUSA newbie just did.

If it survives, Im certain you will see CUSA move the game to a central mainland location or at least to a solid venue (Alamodome?). CUSA will also likely kick up the payout to obtain a better opponent with an eye toward making it the post season destination for the CUSA champ (or runner in BCS years). As an bowl which typically features a P5 opponent and a G5 champ, it will receive a better kick off date.

Man, Cbelt should hire you as their publicity director, Bagdad Bob for example. This Cusa is gone, cant sell the crumbs to anyone. I respect the newbies for trying to realize their lifelong dreams but boys, it aint here.

Honestly, your pessimistic outlook is very frustrating. Our football conference should be very exciting, if not successful this year. Marshall has a legitimate shot at an undefeated season and Rice, UTSA, and FAU (Just off the top of my head), have chances to make program defining wins against TAMU, ND, Arizona, Okie State, Nebraska, and Alabama. I bet you that we win at least one of those games!

Just place eager on ignore, you'll be much happier that way.

Guys... think about it for a second. Who does the last minute shopping on Christmas Eve Day? The wives. The hubbies stay home with the kids. So the wives spend the day shopping, while C-USA has a game on Christmas Eve day and then the players get to be back in time for Christmas with their families, and the guys sit back and enjoy the games.

Wives get home with the goodies, games are over, the guys have to wrap up the presents for their kids, and sit around with their sons and hopefullly "future" C-USA stars :)

Do we have to ***** about everything? Either go or not. Either watch it not. No matter how you slice it it's is great exposure for C-USA. If UAB makes it it will be a reward and if I can swing it I'm going.

Not really, four of those teams I named are in Schlabach's "Way-Too-Early Top 25". I don't think it would be an insult to the conference to only win one of those games. Even in the old CUSA, it wasn't as if top 25 opponents were being knocked off on a weekly basis.

The Bahamas is great if you don't actually have to go to The Bahamas. If you could just fly directly to Atlantis and then back home. But if you have to set foot in The Bahamas you'll find how much of a dump the place is. I've been there. I would not go back voluntarily.
