South Florida will soon be back in the business of hosting Super Bowls after the Miami-Dade County Commission gave approval Tuesday to a deal that paves the way for major renovations of Sun Life Stadium.
The commission by a vote of 7-4 gave support to a plan for the county to pay incentives to the Miami Dolphins for hosting major events. In return, Dolphins owner Steve Ross will proceed with a $350 million project to modernize the 27-year-old stadium.
The renovations would help upgrade the 27-year-old stadium's lights, sound system, seats and other facilities so it could make strong bids on Super Bowl and other big events. It would also add a canopy over the seats, but not the field, to protect fans from the South Florida heat as well as the rain.
Dolphins President and CEO Tom Garfinkel told the commission that Ross will be ready to break ground on the project within a few weeks.

Floridians surveyed identified "South Florida" as comprising the southernmost sections of peninsular Florida. This area includes the Miami metropolitan area (generally defined as Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties), the Florida Keys, and the interior region known as the Glades. Additionally, South West Florida, representing the state's southern Gulf Coast, has emerged as a directional vernacular region.

Actually it's in Miramar or some would say West Hollywood. Actually it's location is very accessible right off Florida Turnpike. Safe area around it compared to the Old Orange Bowl. Lots of parking there also. I like it.

The stadium is located in Miami Gardens, which is a suburb still in Miami-Dade County. The area the stadium is in is not exactly Miramar, which is a bit nicer than the Gardens. The parking is really good at Sun Life and you're right about it being in a little better area than the old Orange Bowl.
Hopefully these renovations improve the gameday experience. They look really nice, now to see the finished product might be a different story.

Here's a radical idea from the website, Lost Letterman. Why don't the Hurricanes simply play their home games in Marlins Park? Forget the Beckham people and the Dolphins. This could make the most sense of any of your realistic options.

How's that worked out for UM since the move to the Dolphins' stadium?
There are more FSU and UF fans in The Keys (though hardly anyone lives there), SW FL, Broward and Palm Beach than UM fans. But hey, whatever you want to tell yourself. Few weeks ago you were talking about how a downtown stadium would be this great catalyst for UM. Now you're saying south Fort Lauderdale is the perfect location.

I know where the stadium is. I'll just ask you to trust me on this one.

When I lived there Miami Gardens was just a Small subdivision near Buccaneer Homes that They demolished to build Joe Robbie Stadium. Guess it was Calder Park race track that's in Miramar near by the Stadium. All are right there at county line.

Saturday 09.07.13 also marked a victory for Canes fans. The packed crowd of 76,869 set a UM record for the Dolphins’ stadium and included plenty of Florida fans, yes. But there were a lot more fans touching thumbs to form a U than there were slapping palms in a Gator Chomp. The Canes absolutely enjoyed the home-field advantage some doubted it would have

The fact that the university is right there and that Seminole fans are few and far between in South Florida kind of disproves it lol. TV viewership in the Miami metro is clear, viewers prefer the HURRICANES above F$U and UFL.

Like I said, more FSU fans in all those other locations that were mentioned. Obviously there are more fake-UM fans in Dade County than FSU fans. That's too be expected. Come game time, though, it'll be close to 50/50 in that stadium. Odd how the proportion doesn't hold true on game day.

STADIUM RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY: They began officially this morning, what the club is calling a "modernization" of the stadium. If you don't believe me, here's a photo the Dolphins provided. The multi-year construction project follows funding approval by Miami-Dade commissioners. The renovation will include a shade canopy, all new seats, new video boards and concourse and concession upgrades in a project expected to be completed by the start of the 2016 season.
