According to the article he's a 2020 recruit.

My bad.

RE: Football Class of 2019
Garyn Prater enters NCAA transfer portal

So who cares about a walk-on WR at OSU presumably transferring?

Well, maybe we do. If the last name rings a bell, it's probably because Prater's younger bro, Evan, is reportedly our #1 QB target and he'd be a huge get considering the competition for him. We've obviously had some good luck with brother combos (paging Kelces) and Prater was a stud at Wyoming HS before walking on at OSU:

Quote:As a senior at Wyoming High School in Cincinnati, Prater caught 54 passes for 1,093 yards and 16 touchdowns. He averaged a team-best 20.2 yards per catch and was named all-conference, all-district and all-city in both football and basketball as well as Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-Ohio. Prater helped lead Wyoming to a 12-1 record in 2016 and helped his team win the Cincinnati Hills League title.

He's only made 1 catch at OSU in his two years there, but he's got nice size at 6-5 200 (or 6-4 210) and was starting to maybe turn some heads at OSU:

Quote:The journey from walk-on to scholarship player isn't easy anywhere, but the degree of difficulty is even higher at Ohio State given how much talent is recruited into the program every year. The odds are certainly long, and yet somehow the Buckeyes might be on the verge of finding another wide receiver capable of making that leap and following the blueprint already being used by C.J. Saunders.

If there's an option on this current roster capable of pulling off that rare feat, Garyn Prater is the guy to watch. And the redshirt sophomore from Cincinnati put on an absolute show last week during an open practice that for at least one day turned him into the buzz of camp at Ohio State.

(from Garyn Prater '17 Emerging as a Walk-On Contributor to Ohio State Football)

I'm not sure what the rules are regarding walk-ons and transfer eligibility, but I think he's used his one rs year and thus has 3 seasons left to play. I'm also not sure if he'd be a scholly candidate at UC but IIRC, we still have one scholly available for the class of 2019 and WR is probably the most open position group on the team for someone to make their mark - especially one who is eligible to play right away this season.

My understanding is that you don't sit a year if you go from being a walk-on to a scholarship athlete. Even the NCAA couldn't be that callous.

Yeah, I would think so too especially considering he's been there 2 years and either one would qualify as a redshirt (if you could have more than one). I'm not sure what UC's plans would be, if any, regarding giving him a scholly (maybe he has to walk on a year here to "earn" it?), but as I said, I'm pretty sure we've got one left and it will/would preferably be used on an immediately eligible WR who can contribute right away.

If I had to guess, he's a KO/P guy first and foremost. He has much better form and results in that area of the kicking game from the exposure I've had to him on the camp circuit. Solid kid, I believe he had PWOs from Michigan and Indiana as well.

Surprised this didn't get more attention back when I posted it. Anyway, it's been reported that Garyn will be on scholarship at UC. So if that's effective immediately, I believe it makes 25 and thus would close the incoming football class of 2019.

Tre Tucker won the 100m state finals today with an unofficial 10.41 in the 100m which is a record. Evidently the track didn't have wind guage equipment so it's "unofficial". This kid is a burner. Eyewitnesses said it was a calm day.

Here's the link from the CVCA track association, tweet from 8 hrs ago. Not the state finals, but a regular meet i believe:

https://twitter.com/CVCA_TRACKandCC

Regardless of the meet or conditions, that's moving. Kid has some wheels. I wonder if he is going to run track at Uc? Look at his long jump.

No doubt, it is a very good time and will probably win the state.

I'm not sure we've ever had a wideout with that kind of speed. He'll be interesting to watch.

DJ Woods was pretty damn fast...just never put it on the field IMO.

Hmm, I thought he was terrific although his senior year was a bit of a letdown as he came down with a case of the dropsies as I recall.

Agreed. That fumbled punt against Oklahoma at PBS cost UC the game.

Is this the same play he fumbled before running into the end zone against Oklahoma? Or was that a passing play.

That was Woods junior year, his best season. He had a big game against Oklahoma other than the fumble.

I was strictly referring to his speed...never seemed to hit his numbers from scouting combines and track when he was on the field. He was a solid player for us.
