Is is possible for Towson to become the default college team to support for Baltimore or is distance and/or the University of Maryland too much to overcome?

Baltimore won't root for a 1-AA/FCS team, even if they are consistent winners and playoff contenders. They only root for Ravens and Orioles. Now move up a level in football and become a more consistent contender in basketball and I think they'll get more support from the city, but the Terps will always be #1. At some point, Towson has break the door down to be 1A.

Is that something that you think could happen in the future? With so many big city schools going to FBS, is Towson close enough to Baltimore to make it work? What about Towson hoops? If they made a tourny run would the city get behind them?

The city doesn't get behind any of the local schools when they are successful, so why would they get behind Towson? As for football, an FBS future is possible. There really isn't much of a future in FCS and Towson does have one plus, which is Baltimore.

The Baltimore area has Maryland-Baltimore County, Loyola (Maryland), Coppin State, and Towson. That's four teams, none of whom are in the top eight conferences in the Men's Basketball Conference RPI.

So if Towson made a Cinderella run in the ncaa tournament you dont think Baltimore would rally behind the team? Thats too bad

Yes, Morgan State as well. That's why nobody will support even the best teams though I can see the day where Towson gets about 4-5,000 a game if they win and draw more students to the games. They'll have about 6,000 kids on campus in the next few years.

Sure, if they made a VCU/George Mason run to the FF, things would change some, but Baltimore as a whole still is all about the Terps.

I don't like people liking a team that's farther away just because it's better. I also don't like people on Long Island rooting for the Rangers instead of the Islanders.

Also. Baltimore Sun doesn't even have a writer at Saturday's game. There's no story on any Baltimore school in Sunday's paper, but Maryland/Wisconsin is on the front page, top story. Local schools get a wire story on page 4. Everybody on local sports radio on Sunday talks about Terps' loss to Wisconsin. Game on ESPN. Towson/W&M on CSN. Guessing that nobody locally really watched that other than some Towson fans and the 2334 that made it through the cold to see the W&M game at SECU.
