No one is suggesting that. However, there are many teen aged children that like to walk around and have fun on Halloween. I would hate for one of them to get shot and possibly killed for jumping out of a bush and scaring some kids.

I'd hate for a kid to get snatched by a creepy clown looking to take advantage of Halloween.

There are two sides to every coin. Think about the shootings recently. Have more of them been committed by law abiding, gun carrying citizens, or by people that had no business with a firearm in the first place?

I'm not looking for anything fancy. Like I said, I'm going to be camping in remote locations. I just need something that will scare a bear.

What's the problem with bears? If you see one just throw s**t at him. He'll leave pronto.

I was wondering, if you wear a Killary mask does that count as a clown face?

You make a valid point. Thankfully, no one has been shot yet over this thing but it has already made it so that some kids will likely not dress up like a clown or not go trick or treating all together. That is a shame.

By the same token, anyone who puts a hole in a kid because they jumped out of a bush in a clown suit has no business carrying a firearm.

If you are worried about a predator species, you need to be able to kill it rather than just scare it. I carry a .45 due to wild hogs when I hunt in case I walk up on some or they catch my with my rifle or shotgun slung over my shoulder. Don't rely on just scaring a bear. The sound may make him charge rather than turn and run. Talk to someone at the store and let them know what you need it for. Go big caliber, .44 magnum at least. Taurus is a good gun (I've had several) and they actually make a model that works great for defense against large predators.
Rather than a pistol, you may want to look at any number of different "guide guns". They are primarily short distance defense rifles and may be a better option for you if you don't shoot a lot since they are easier to handle and aim than a handgun.

Finally some good advice. Thanks for the info.

First of you don't want to scare a bear or hog, you should want to be able to kill it ,.. wound it and piss it off !

Ball ammo not hollow point , you need penetration not expansion.

Bear= .44 or .454 Cassul Revolver. Or Glock 10 mm

The smallest caliber on bear would be .357 or .45 acp.

What is your budget ?

Honestly, I didn't really mean bear although I suppose that might be a possibility. I suppose it would more likely be coyote or something like that.

I don't have a fixed budget just yet but I probably wouldn't want to spend more than $500

If coyote, a 12 gauge shotgun will suffice. Smaller caliber rifle would also work. They will spook rather than charge.

Coyote won't bother you. Coy Wolf possibly. You are looking at a 9 mm for that animal. But .45 acp.

Go buy a S&W Shield either model for under your quoted dollar amount. Semi Autos not revolver.

.223 scary AR -15 will work nicely on varmints like Coyotes. Heck a Ruger 10/22 for that matter.

If this is really happening since there are no photos of this, in an age where most everyone has a cell phone. Casei in point , the false statement by the guy in Winston-Salem, NC a few weeks ago; which led to his arrest on reporting a falsehood to police.

But it's a clown issue not a gun issue.

I don't think anyone is truly targeting children with this. They're just ******* with people to get a rise out of them. Someone is going to end up getting killed if it keeps up though.

But it's a clown issue not a gun issue.

To this date, there is still no evidence that these "creepy clowns " are doing anything illegal.

However, law enforcement in Texas are now urging people to not dress up or risk getting shot.

So now the scaredy cat gun carrying community now basically have free reign to shoot a clown and get away with it.

They'll just say their life was in danger and presto. They walk.

Quote: A parent police say wore a clown mask and followed an Auburn school bus full of kids on Tuesday is facing charges.

The man whom police did not identify faces disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace charges after several children reported seeing him driving behind the school bus, even following students as they got off and began walking home. Some students were so afraid they hid under a nearby deck, police said.

Quote:Two Roseville women were locked up on $10,000 bonds Friday after they allegedly dressed up as clowns and terrorized two teenaged girls.

Jaime Salinis and Elandra Sledge, both 18-year-olds from Roseville, where arraigned Friday on disorderly conduct before 39th District Court Judge Catherine Steenland. They stood mute to the charge and will be held at the Macomb County Jail until they post bond or reach their next court date Oct. 20.

The bond was set as cash or surety, with no 10 percent option, according to Roseville police. A misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge is punishable by up to 90 days in jail or a $500 fine.

Quote:Police in Wisconsin say a man with a gun and a clown mask was arrested Wednesday night after officers received reports over the course of several days about “suspicious” clown sightings.

The Sheboygan Police Department and other agencies in the area had received multiple reports in the days leading up to the 11:30 p.m. arrest, the department said in a press release Thursday.

Quote:The officer caught up the suspect, 20-year-old man whose identity has not been released, and allegedly found a clown mask and a gun in his possession.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a concealed weapon.

“The Sheboygan Police Department recognizes that dressing in this fashion is not illegal though trespassing on property, harassing residents, posting threatening messages on social media, and any other illegal activity is and can result in a citation or an arrest,” the department said.

Quote:Whether it's related to national clown panic or just an unhappy coincidence, a clown in boxing gloves -- technically a man in a clown mask -- was arrested Thursday morning after menacing students and then charging the assistant principal at Floyd Light Middle School, police said.

In a press release from Portland Police Bureau, police said that 55-year-old David Dahlman was arrested and then booked on charges of Menacing Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.

According to officers who responded to the incident, Dahlman "walked his grandkids to the school bus stop wearing the outfit before creating the disorder outside the middle school."

You were saying?
