Clint Walker, who played Cheyenne in the 50-60's western of the same name died today at the age of 90. Many of us old guys remember Cheyenne. It was in black and white and it was one of my favorite westerns. He lived a long life. God's Speed Cheyenne...
Novelist Philip Roth (Goodbye Columbus, Portnoy's Complaint, etc.) died at age 85. I don't think we mentioned the passing of Tom Wolfe (The Right Stuff, The Bonfire of the Vanities, etc.) 9 days ago at age 88. One legendary American writer - Herman Wouk - is still alive at age 102. Hang in there Herman!
Actor William Phipps died. He was the voice of Disney's Prince Charming in Chinderella, as tv's Curly Bill in the Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, and starred in classic sci-fi movies of War of the Worlds, Invaders from Mars and the clunker Cat Women of the Moon.

ALS is a bad way to leave this earth. I remember the catch below against the Cowboys that he became famous for.
South Carolina Sports and Clemson Hall of Famer. Wouldn't have been drafted if it wasn't for the fact that Bill Walsh came to Clemson to scout QB Steve Fuller for the 49ers and Clark was Fuller's roommate so he went out to catch passes for him. When Terry Don Phillips announced his retirement as AD there was a strong push among a rather influential set of boosters to bring in Clark as Clemson AD based on his time in the front offices in San Francisco & Cleveland but reportedly he declined due to health.
On a personal note he was my dad's favorite NFL player. Dad was a 49ers fan his entire life after seeing some highlights of Y.A. Tittle at the movie theater and hated the Dallas Cowboys with an absolute passion. With Clark making "The Catch" and him being both a Clemson Tiger and related to someone Dad served in the SC Guard with it was a natural fit. Dad ws killed in a wreck in April of 1982 but before he died he got to witness his Tigers win a national championship and his 49ers win a Super Bowl.

I feel terrible for David Spade. By all accounts, he appears to be a pretty good guy and now three people close to him have died while young.
