Kavas: the player no one is talking about
Not a lot of talk from SU fans or the WAC, but I feel it should be noticed how RS Freshman SF Mataj Kavas has been playing for SU since New Years after a forgetable non conference for him. Aside from off games against Bako and UTRGV, look at his stats in conference play:
1/7 Bako 3 points 1 reb 1 assist
1/12 UMKC 16 points 4 reb
1/14 Chicago St 24 points 8 reb
1/21 GCU 16 points 4 reb 1 assist
1/26 NMSU 14 points 5 reb
1/28 UTRGV 2 points 1 reb 2 assists
2/4 UVU 18 points 4 reb
2/9 Chicago St 18 points 5 reb
He has done all this off the bench. Kavas along with Menzies, Means, Moore (if he becomes consistent) and Uleano are giving me a lot of hope for the future. All are tall too, SU is building with height. Hopefully Montoya can get healthy and back to how he played last year and there might be something to like in a year or two. Every player I listed is either a Soph, RS Freshman, or true freshman.
