Can they use the Hillary defense with the FBI?

I'd rather not compete for athletes who expect bribes. Having said that, I would like to see the program rank highly in the minds of recruits who are seeking intense player development, with a view to being NBA-ready. The program used to have that rep under a previous HC.

Its interesting to see Auburn named--- they are an Under Armour school.

As an aside, how good does a recruit have to be to be offered bribes? One-and-done? McD All-American? Or is it more common than that?

Sounds like Adidas had an agreement that the athlete would sign with them after they completed college or were drafted.

So if a school, any school, were already on probation then the penalties should be far harsher than that of a first time offender or a first time in a long time offender, no? I mean the point of probation is basically a continuous warning to not f*ck up again or else it's game over? And with something this egregious, regardless of probation, the punishment would have to be severe anyway. So add this train wreck on to a school that's already on probation and what do you get? The Death Penalty.
BUT this is the NCAA, so that school on probation will turn out fine, but Bellarmine better get ready for colossal punishment.

Quote:The charging documents also allege that the defendants and an unnamed assistant coach from the Kentucky school devised a plan to pay another recruit, this one from the high school class of 2019, at a meeting in a Las Vegas hotel room that was surreptitiously videotaped by the FBI. The assistant coach from the Kentucky school was recorded as saying the scheme would have to be “low key” because the program already was on NCAA probation. The coach also was recorded giving Augustine, the AAU official, an envelope containing $12,700 in cash, which Dawkins said “will take care of July, of August.” The scheme was patterned after the one used for the other recruit, according to the charging document.
Louisville assistant coach is caught on video paying for a recruit. Said assistant coach specifically notes that they'd have to be careful because the program is already on probation. Current payment scheme was modeled after the previously successful scheme. Hate to say it but if that isn't death penalty worthy, I don't know what is.

The FBI will look at the history of everyone involved.

Well, I'm thinking that's due to the Bruce Pearl connection. Tennessee was an Adidas school while he was there...and knowing his past recruitment snaffus I'm betting that's how the relationship started. I also have a very strong suspicion this will start to shed a hell of a light on the AAU sponsorship issue that we all know about a bit.

Could it be that is how Jordan Crawford (2009-10) and Tu Holloway (2008-12) ended up at XU? The timeline certainly matches up from when Richardson was there. (2007-2009)
On another note, has there ever been an NCAA investigation that doesn't include either USC, UofL or Miami? Man, those schools are always up to something.

Agree 100%. I don't see what other option they have. You can't be on probation and trying to be extra-sneaky to help a player get a 100,000 dollar bribe. Looked at in conjunction with the hooker scandal, it has to be worse than SMU.

Absolutely. This might result in the biggest NCAA sanctions of all time. As The T-shirt said, Bellarmine better get ready for some serious punishment.

I wish the FBI had perp walked them.
Wait until they start singing. Once they face jail time they all will be trying to cut a deal by ratting out others.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. This isn't the mafia where head coaches are going to have their assistant coaches' families whacked if they squeal... I expect those assistants will claim they were "just following orders." There's no way the head coaches didn't know about this, and everyone knows it.

The best part of all this is that the NCAA isn't running the investigation. JUSTICE FOR ALL.

The NCAA has been relatively hands-off towards corruption because it fears that the P5 conferences will form their own sanctioning entity, and take their money with them.
