Yippee!
Love hosting the CAA tournament that we won’t be
part of.
Major fail....
Yeah I'm reeeeeally grasping for a silver lining here...

Dukes complete the sweep of Towson with an 11-6 win and conclude the season on a five-game winning streak at 26-26 (11-13 CAA). Too little, too late...

RE: JMU Baseball 2018
There's no doubt that I see more than I could see the last few years of Spanky. This by far is not saying a whole lot. Nevertheless, next season there must absolutely be significant gains.
For the life of me, why would we set ourselves up for this embarrassment of hosting before we prove we can be competitive, especially since we experienced this very same humiliation about four seasons ago.

Best record since 2011.
A trend in the right direction, even if marginal.

Finish one game out of 6th spot. Unacceptable and I'd make a change, but we all know thats unlikely.

Slightly off topic, but passing along that the CAA got 2 bids to the NCAAT announced earlier this afternoon.
Northeastern got an at large bid and will be the #3 seed at the Raleigh Regional. They'll open with #2 seed Auburn. NC State hosts and will open with #4 Army.
CAA Champs, UNCW, will be the #4 seed in the Greenville Regional. They'll open with nearby hosts, EZU. Also in the regional will be #2 seed South Carolina opening with #3 seed Ohio State.

Great news for the CAA that two teams got in. Interesting that NE got the #3 Seed. As a baseball junkie the regional/super regionals is a close second to march madness for me and i would suggest anyone watch ESPN's Bases Loaded coverage which is basically the NFL's RedZone for College Baseball.
OT: How the mighty have fallen: Miami missed the tournament for a second straight season after a record 44 consecutive appearances.

Glad to read the CAA placed multiple teams in the NCAAT. The League took a hit when ECU left, followed by VCU. There was a time when the CAA was one of the top NCAA BB conferences, and placing 2-3 teams in the NCAAT was normal. JMU must return to that level.
And while I’m on the topic, I sure hope the conference adds Stony Brook and Albany as full-time members in the near future. Both schools would bring a great deal of strength across many sports, and SB made the CWS just a few years ago. IMO this is what the CAA Commish should be focusing on.

Yep. I am a big fan of Coach Jim Morris as I knew him and his first wife back when he was HC at Ga Tech, who he brought from the dead to winning 4 straight ACC titles in the late 80's and building the '94 team who made it to the national title game in Danny Hall's first season as HC after taking over for Morris.
Morris retired at the end of this season and we'll see if they re-energize themselves with some new blood and direction. Like football, if they can just dominate recruiting in South Florida, they will be back soon enough knocking on the door in Omaha.
While here, Virginia missed the NCAAT for the first time under HC O'Connor. In fact, the ACC only has 5 teams in the NCAAT which I can't recall the last time that conference got so few. Down year indeed. Miami, UVa, Ga Tech...all significantly underachieved (again! for GT and Miami).

Yeah, I think I remember reading in the late 90s or early 00s that the CAA had placed the third most teams in the NCAA tournament over the last decade (or similar period) right behind the SEC and the ACC. JMU was part of that; along with ECTC, VCU, ODU and UNCW.

RE: JMU Baseball 2018
UR and VCU had very good baseball programs while in the CAA. Moving to the A10 hurt both of them. I don’t think UR has made it to the NCAAs since leaving the CAA but am not 100% sure. VCU might have made the NCAAs but has not been as dominant of a program.

RE: JMU Baseball 2018
Both CAA teams were beaten in their opening games in the NCAAT today. Auburn blew out Northeastern, 13-4, in Raleigh.
But, get this...Army is leading host NC State 5-1 in the 9th. Not only would that be a huge upset, but it will pit NU against NCSU in an elimination game Saturday if the Army lead holds.
EZU ripped UNCW, 13-6. Hawks will face Ohio State Saturday in an elimination game.
edit note: USMA pulled off the upset, 5-1, over NC State. Congrats to the Black Knights.

RE: JMU Baseball 2018
At least 1 of our baseball recruits was drafted directly out of high school yesterday, Nick Zona out of Hanover went in the 38th round. I'm not sure how many recruits we had drafted, but it can't be a bad thing (as long as they still intend to play for us). I believe the last Hanover kid that went in the draft was Derek Casey, he opted for UVA and was drafted again this week in the 9th round. Hopefully Nick will experience the same improvement.

RE: JMU Baseball 2018
I have a huge fear and it's backed by a HS player we've been after. His father has told me many players are looking for another school to play for, stating "they are simply not having fun." We all know winning can make that change in a hurry. We've yet to offer, nevertheless, if he gets 50% from Tech, he'll accept. To date he has three in hand with the highest at 85%. Getting an 85% offer when there's only 11.7 to be spread around about 25 players, shows the kid is expected to be a stud.

The money available for a 38th round pick is nothing. If a HS kid takes a pro contract over college in the 38th round they never intended on setting foot on a college campus in the first place.
Now, that having been said, yes, a kid getting drafted out of HS cant be looked at as anything but a positive as far as the caliber of player they are.
