Comments I would prefer hearing sound like the following - "Man, I saw the Shockers in the NCAA tournament _ _ _ _ year playing against _ _ _ _ and they were just relentless. It got to the point where the opposing team was afraid to even dribble the ball. On one play their 5-star PG appeared to just throw it out of bounds in a sign of protest as all his teammates were covered. It really seemed like it was 8 vs. 5 on the floor at times!

But for a real critique on Wichita basketball
Defense
- you only have 1 top level defender on your team (zach brown) but he is too slow to guards points and 2s...any team that has a scoring guard that can move is having field day on wichita
- frankamp and reaves are borderline liabilities on defense but weirdly enough are the ones guarding the best players of opposing teams ..shamet is good on defense but he isnt shut down..you wont get an easy shot with him but you can get shot if you work on him, he isnt selling out on any ply..
- morris is slow. smu and houston ran picks to switch on him,and then shot the ball when morris was coming over as was too slow to get to there in time

not saying Wichita is a bad defensive team they have a good system defense with the pressure, double teams and full court press. they know ho to force teams into mistakes..but individually their isnt any shutdown player for Wichita not brown ....if there is a guard put on an island with the ball in his hand to win it (cant get help), i wouldn't feel comfortable with any Wichita guards to stop him

on offense
Wichita is an amazing passing team, with top level shooters ...but doesnt have a slasher or driver/cutter..they are making great passes from outside the 3 point line...there isnt anyone driving in and beating defenders and swinging it out

that is the difficulty of playing in a better league. when you play good teams your weaknesses come out more...the more good teams you play the more film there is of your weakness

normally when you pressure guards like houston did on wsu, a slasher or driver would blow by them (or create set play using picks to get them lanes to drives) either giving them open layup or draw other defenders to get other players open...

when we pressured wichita they either took bad shots or tried to force a pass, the risk of being punished and blown by isnt there

houston's point guard galen robinson is the exact opposite he is a very fast slasher who cant shoot, so teams give him a 10 yard cushion and never pressure him. they dont guard him till he gets in the paint and use whoever is guarding him as help for others because there is film that shows he wont punish you for that s he has no outside shot...

Its this kind of analysis WSU needs to be paying attention to. Your weaknesses have been exposed. Now it shows what kind of team and coach you really have. Does your team and coach gut it up and get better, or continue to sag in the second half of the conference games.
