Hey, with the Reds win over the Tigers today they are 6-1 in interleague play this year and have won 5 in a row against the Americans. Yeah I know, there is that nearly 20 games below .500 overall record looming but I'll take some positive news. Also, Riggo has been steady at the helm with a 25-30 record thus far. I haven't heard anything about his possibility to remain as the Reds next manager but I'm sure it will depend on how the team finishes the year and if there is a fire sale at the trading deadline.

I'll take David Lee Roth at this point.

I want to see the Corkster (Miller) make it up the chain in some coaching role.

Nick Senzel suffered a season-ending injury last night.

It's not like the Reds were going to give him any meaningful MLB experience this year, anyway.

The Reds 11-2 win over the Cubbies tonight is their 6th in a row and they've won 8 of their last 10. If they beat the Cubs tomorrow - get the brooms out for a 4 game sweep. Where's Mark at?

RE: reds 2018
what would suck is if we march into the all star break riding incredible momentum and then our stars asking price comes too good to pass up. i thought going .500 this year would be a step in the right direction. rebuilding all over again seemed the best option with the horrid start. they've all been hitting the ball better this, like almost all of them

the average baseball fan is dumb as a box of rocks. talking to a coworker after the frazier trade he sighed and lamented the state of baseball where fan favorites are so callously traded . i like the f*cking team no matter who's playing. i had favorite baseball players when i was ten. i didn't even like the reds

Tough recent stretch for cubs after their best stretch of the year just prior. Glad the reds are playing better. I'm still confident the cubs will win the division.

I don't doubt that and agree. But damn, this is fun watching the Reds just score 7 runs in the 7th to take a 2 run lead on the Cubbies.

Hello? Reds fans? Are you there? Are there any left? Reds are 12-8 thus far in the month of June, 25-23 since May 1st, after starting 7-22 through April 30th.

Their recent play, especially sweeping the Cubs like that was the most fun I've had watching and listening to them in years. Listening to Cowboy's call of Disco's Grand Slam had me cheering and yelling in my car. And I've loved seeing Amir blow Rizzo away it seems like every game after the scuffle they had. Votto, Scooter and Suarez are a freakin' murderer's row and while I'm not saying they'll all keep playing at this level or better, I don't think you can call any of their performances flukes either given their track record back to last year.

But it all comes down to pitching. I'm really happy with the current bullpen: Iglesias, Hughes, Amir and Hernandez are pitching terrifically at the back end and Lorenzo and Floro give us 6 relievers I feel pretty good about having in the ballgame. If Wandy can regain his control in the minors he'd really fill out the bullpen as our LOOGY.

But ultimately it's the starters who will determine whether we're contenders (relatively speaking after the horrible start) or pretenders. Earlier in the year all the "IFs" were coming back "no" but now a lot of them are more like "maybe". If those turn into "Yes", we can play with any team in the NL.

I can't really say too much about who we should or shouldn't trade because it all depends upon the return, but it's shaping up like we might have to make some very tough decisions as we approach the trading deadline and the Senzel injury just makes it that much tougher.

Me too on the bolded part. What's your thoughts on the Garrett kid out of the bullpen? I don't know much about the dude but what I saw yesterday was a flamethrower, confident pitcher.

Amir looks fantastic out there and doesn't back down to anybody (see my Rizzo comments above). But it is that same talent that makes us all wonder whether he'd give us more production as a starter. We've gone down this road before with Chapman and Iglesias and while they've both worked out great as closers, maybe we could have gotten triple the innings out of each as starters.

We can probably keep Amir in the pen the rest of this year and still move him back to starting next year, but if we go with it any longer the decision is kind of made for us that he's a reliever and there's probably no going back. On the other hand, if we keep him in the pen, you could argue that makes Iglesias less of a necessity. So as much as I love how he's going, maybe trading Iglesias alone or as part of a package gets us something to fill a gap (e.g. young starting pitcher) while still having a fairly strong bullpen.

RE: reds 2018
2 links I'll pass along from redszone:

1. Morosi of mlb.com just wrote about the trade market for relievers. A couple of teams had 2 guys mentioned, the Reds were the only ones with three:

Quote:Raisel Iglesias, Amir Garrett and Jared Hughes, Reds
The Reds' bullpen had drawn attention from Major League scouts long before the start of Cincinnati's surprising seven-game winning streak. The Reds' asking price for Iglesias remains high -- as it should be, for a possible All-Star closer with multiple years of control. Garrett has been a revelation in his first season as a reliever and struck out the side in Sunday's sweep-clinching win over the Cubs. Hughes, with a 1.36 ERA and under control through 2020, is probably the most likely of Cincinnati's relievers to be moved over the coming weeks.

2 Reds Notes: Duvall, Deadline, Bailey

Quote:Reds outfielder Adam Duvall is drawing plenty of interest in advance of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal says (video link). The 29-year-old Duvall likely wouldn’t bring back a lot in a trade, Rosenthal notes, as he’s amid a down season in terms of bottom-line results. After hitting 30-plus home runs in both 2016 and ’17, a two-year stretch in which he slashed .245/.299/.489 in 1,255 plate appearances, Duvall has recorded a .201/.282/.406 line in 262 PAs this season. But with 12 homers and a .205 ISO, Duvall has continued to offer power, and he’s walking at a career-best rate (9.9 percent). Further, as Rosenthal points out, Duvall has encountered some bad luck. The 29-year-old’s batting average on balls in play is just .230, 40 points below his career mark, and he entered Sunday with an impressive .356 xwOBA (via Baseball Savant). Duvall’s also cheap ($645K) and won’t make his first of three potential trips through arbitration until the upcoming offseason.

The Redlegs remain hot. What do they do after sweeping the Cubs? The go on the road to Atlanta and take 2 out of 3 from the first place Braves. They are now, hold your breath, 10 games below .500 and just 4 games behind the Buccos. I don't know how long this is going to last but I'm damn sure enjoying the ride. Baseball is fun again.

RE: reds 2018
Redlegs continue playing well. Exciting come from behind win last night against the ChiSox. This team just looks confident at the plate right now and they are capable of exploding for runs in any inning. Reds have won 3 in a row, 7 of last 10, 15 of of last 20 and are just 3 games back of the Buccos.

Has anyone caught that the Redlegs are tied with the New York Yankees with the most grand slams before the All Star break in MLB history?

Baseball is fun again!

Quote:With nine grand slams in less than two months, the Cincinnati Reds are nearing unprecedented levels.

They’ve already tied a franchise record for the most grand slams in a season, matching the team’s mark in 2002. Only the 2010 New York Yankees have hit as many grand slams before the All-Star break in MLB history.

The Major League record for grand slams in a season is 14. No National League team has ever hit more than 12.

Shazaam!
