Add Seattle and Central Arkansas to the CBI fray.

Weber State has turned down bids for CIT or CBI.

CIT field is out too on twitter, apparently. Only 20 teams if it's the full field.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
UC Santa Barbara reportedly declined a CBI and CIT bid.
They were 23-9 and had the nation's biggest turnaround, a 17 game improvement from the previous season.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
In the meantime, here's a theoretical field for a hypothetical 16-team tournament of the eligible teams that didn't get/take a postseason bid:

Maryland
Georgia
Illinois State
East Tennessee State
UC Santa Barbara
UNLV
Albany
Ball State
Hawaii
Southern Methodist
Wyoming
Old Dominion
Bradley
Belmont
Toledo
VCU

That's a darn sight better than the CBI or CIT fields.

Im sure the CBI reached out to those teams. Again, another year no Power teams are in the field. Vegas 16 tried and failed to get these teams too for its tournament a few years ago. There's plenty of teams to go around.

Most schools are not willing to pay 10k when their fans aren't ahowing up to support.

48 team NIT looks pretty good. Prefer extended NIT over EIEIO existing.

They already did an expanded NIT.

No MW teams in CBI or CIT.

Kinda surprised some MW teams turned them down. Guess we are acting like the big boys this year. Ncaa or NIT only.

No AAC or A-10 teams either. Two CUSA teams but both are emerging programs. Even the CAA appears to have taken a pass on them.

The CIT was always meant for low and mid-major programs, and while the CBI didn't intend for it to happen, that's what they've become too.

Both Idaho (2nd Big Sky) and Weber St (3rd Big Sky) declined bids to either the CBI and CIT

Teams turn down the CIT and CBI. They more than likely wouldn't turn down an expanded NIT field.

Weber might have - they were decimated by injuries at the end of season and would have had a hard team fielding a competitive team.

I wouldn't mind an expanding the NIT by another 16 teams with a .500 overall record required a la a bowl game. There are a lot of 2nd place teams in mid majors like Northeastern and Belmont that deserve a bid.

Expanding to 64 allows you to guarantee all 32 D1 conferences a team in the NIT field while ensuring that anyone that deserves an NIT bid gets one. Going to 48 only works if you don't guarantee every conference a team; otherwise you only have 16 at-larges, which is worse than what we had this year when auto bids too 12 of the 32 spots.

Women's basketball seems to have found the sweet spot — 64-team WNIT, 16-team WBI. I'm not sure you even need a third-tier tournament at that point but it's not hurting anyone either.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
Id be fine with a 16 team expansion for now.

I think the biggest hold up is any expansion of the NIT would be seen as predatory towards the CBI and CIT. The original NIT got the NCAA on that which is how the NCAA ended up owning the NIT. I do not believe the NCAA owns the WNIT so they do not have that issue.

WNIT is the perfect model IMO.
