As far as Memphis BBQ, I like the Memphis BBQ company or the original Interstate BBQ
Hard 8 - TX BBQ at its best. *
Memphis BBqCO - Memphis at its best. *
Oklahoma Joes - KC at its best. *
* other places have certain aspects that are better, but massed produced representations are great indicators of quality.
Memphis BBQ Company is one of my favorites in the Memphis area, along with the BBQ Shop on Madison, and Central BBQ (although on some items, they can be a little inconsistent).
For a quick stop and a sandwich or plate, it is hard to top Tops BBQ (several locations). Their cole slaw is unreal, as are their cheeseburgers (I know, a little off topic). And their BBQ is up there.
I have also eaten at Oklahoma Joe's in the past couple of years, and plan to visit again this summer. Their name has changed to KC Joe's. Their brisket may be the best I ever ate, although, like others, I don't consider brisket to be real BBQ. The pigs you get brisket from just don't look right, for some reason.

Oklahoma (KC) Joes is the BEST ribs I've ever had and I'm from Memphis. Had the flavor of Rendezvous but meatier. Thing about Memphis man ... There ain't no bad BBQ. You serve bad Q in that town ... Your closed in a week. I've had bad Q in KC ... Some chain looking place that we were takin too for dinner one night. Several locations in KC. Can't smell it ... Don't sell it !!

It is a noun. More specifically, it is pulled pork.
Look, I live in GA unfortunately, and y'all don't know ANYTHING about BBQ down here. It is reallllllly sad.
I am going to take this post about as seriously as I take ECU basketball .....
Exactly.
I live in Georgia, own several pits and grills and also know that bbq come from the ancient Caribbean Taino word barbacoa which means slow cooked meat and in the case of the Taino it was FISH. I have bbqued pork, ribs, beef brisquet and last year even lamb for a Greek friend. People need to get over themselves.
